Cheap & Easy 10 Gallon Rubbermaid MLT Conversion

My braid is beat up from stirring after 20-25 batches. Time for a new braid after a couple of stuck sparges. I'm going to go with a tee and a hoop design this time. Seems like the hoop may stay more stable than a single braid flopping around?

Winter Seasonal Beer Christmas Ale (Great Lakes Clone)

I brewed this on 10/21. I put honey in the boil, but not cinnamon or ginger. Moved to secondary 11/4, added cinnamon sticks and ginger and wanted to add some more honey. But the honey I had left had turned solid, So I mixed it with water and microwaved it a bit. Then I thought that I might...

I got the 2 keg kegerator, ball lock cornies with the double stainless faucet from keg connection about a year ago. Very happy with it.

    Wooden Beer Case

Yes that is my beer box in BYO. They're really fun to make, but dock cleats are tough to get this time of year in the Midwest. I gave them to my friends and relatives also. I may try wooden beer buckets next.

Which keg should I drink first?

On each keg - I purged by putting 20 lbs in and then venting - 3 times Then put each on 15 lbs overnight. Then put each on 8 lbs, waiting a week to tap one or the other. No priming sugar in either one. I added the priming sugar to the bottling bucket after racking from the 2nd keg. The full keg...

Which keg should I drink first?

Yes - 2 taps. So I will be able to taste test each one. Just wondering if the volume of beer in relation to volume of keg has any effect on conditioning.

Which keg should I drink first?

I brewed 2 batches of pale ale (same recipe) on the same day. Keg1 - 2 weeks bucket primary to corny secondary, dry hopped and left 4 days, then cold crashed 3 days under 3lbs co2, then transferred to serving keg (full). Keg2 - 2 weeks in bucket primary to carboy secondary, dry hopped and left...

    Recirculating through a hop spider?

I recirculate cooling wort through my hop spider with a paint strainer bag. I find that it reduces trub, but I mainly recirculate through my plate chiller in warmer weather to chill the wort enough to ferment. I do have to watch that the strainer bag doesn't block the outlet of the boil kettle...

    Festbier BierMuncher's OktoberFAST Ale (AG)

I'm no expert, but I would think that adding more extract during the boil should raise OG. Since I switched to all grain, my OG is usually low, so I compensate by adding a little more grain.

    Festbier BierMuncher's OktoberFAST Ale (AG)

I brewed back to back 5 gal batches yesterday. Same recipe on both. Used S-04. OG was 1.050. Plan is to ferment each batch 3 weeks in primary. No secondary. Then keg 5 gals, and bottle 5 gals.

    Wooden Beer Case

My latest one is 5-1/8" x 7-11/16" x 6" high (all inside dimensions). I'm also using 1/8" plywood for the dividers between the bottles. This one is gong to be slightly bigger than my previous ones. I made one 5" x 7-1/2" that was too small and the bottles wouldn't fit - some bottles aren't...

Will do. I have one in progress now. I'll get some more photos and instructions together

    Wooden Beer Case

I love building these boxes. I've done 4 or 5 of them. Here's a bad pic. I use a router with a Porter Cable dovetail jig - in box joint mode. Then I tie ends of a rope in an eye splice around plastic boat dock cleats. Then I wrap the eye splices in leather shoe laces.

How To Build A Hop Spider To Filter Hops From Your Wort

I'm thinking of adding another set of nuts to the threaded rods so that they line up with the outer edges of the kettle. This should keep it from dancing around during the boil

Haven't thought about it yet - its only been a week since I finished the last revision. Maybe a sight glass or 2. Measuring by sticking a ruler in the kettle just doesn't seem right.

Menard's - don't know if they have them in your area - maybe Home Depot / Lowes, etc has something similar

How To Build A Hop Spider To Filter Hops From Your Wort

I was worried about that. I felt the pvc a few times during the boil and it was warm but didn't melt. The bottom of my pvc is 2 inches above the wort prior to the boil. I lose about 2 gallons of wort due to evaporation, so I have more clearance as the boil goes on. The wort doesn't touch the...
