    Getting Frustrated with Beersmith

When trying to dial in Brewsmith the most important idea is that when you are done brewing a batch some of the numbers are actual "fixed" measurements for this actual batch...you used X lbs grain, X gals water total, collected X gals preboil with a gravity of X, X amount of liquid left in the...

    Keg foaming

I am using this same calculation. (1 foot per 1 psi for 3/16 i.d. tubing) however you can gently vent the keg and dispense at 4-5 psi for your current tubing length but you'll have to increase it back to carbonation pressure (14 psi) when you are done serving or it will lose carbonation. Also...

    Moldy coney kegs

I bought a corny with some mold in it. Removed the posts and dip tube. I soaked it all in oxy and phosphate free cleaner overnight. It looked good. Rinsed then soaked it all overnight in star san. Filled with beer. Two weeks later moldy tasting beer. Dumped the beer. Disassembled again this time...

    No fermentation again and again

You only use the refractometer adjustment calculator after fermentation has begun. Before adding the yeast a refractometer should give an accurate reading at room temp.

    Would you use Beano?

I have used beano to dry out a sweet beer. I crushed and added them. I don't remember how many. I think two. Within a day the air lock started chugging. I monitored the gravity daily. When it hit the target I cold crashed just above freezing. A couple of days later I kegged it. If you bottle...

    Can I salvage this (urgent)

Campden tablets can be used to drive off chlorine and related chemicals from municipal water treatment to prevent off flavors. Some say bandaid like chlorophenols. If these chemicals are in your water in high enough concentrations you may have issues.

American Pale Ale Summer Citra Cerveza

10 gallons of Summer Citra Cerveza on tap for our summer party. Light and refreshing with a bit citrus fruit aroma. I used carapils instead flaked barley and a packet of Coopers dry yeast. Fermented fast and dropped clear. I also had an IPA and Kentucky Common on tap but the Cerveza was the big...

    Pineapple extract?

I remember a strong pineapple aroma when I added the dram to the keg but it was more subtle when carbonated, using the dram of Loran pineapple extract.

    Pineapple extract?

They recommend 1 dram per 5 gallons using the Loran oil but 2-4 ounces of this product... http://www.homebrewing.org/Natural-Pineapple-Flavoring-Extract-4-oz_p_6258.htm

    Pineapple extract?

I brewed a basic 5 gallon Cream Ale recipe with 2 oz of Citra hop pellets at the end of the boil. I also peeled and diced a fresh pineapple and added it at the end of the boil. It added some tartness and bit of fruitiness but no obvious aroma so I added 1 dram of Loran pineapple extract to the...

    Request: Bud Light Clone Recipe

I copied this from another forum... ABInBevAMA, I work for Anheuser Busch. I'm going to copy my answer to this question from another thread so I don't have to retype it all :) The beechwood started use during a brewing era (1876, as the ad indicated) when the microbiology of yeast wasn't...

    Request: Bud Light Clone Recipe

I heard a recent show on the Brewing Network. The guy on the show, (don't remember his name) used to work at a Budweiser brewery. He said in the 1980s that the younger son took over and disliked hop aroma so they actually installed a process to remove any remaining hop aroma. He was talking...

I have seen that setting on old units to allow outside air in. Most new units do not have this option and only circulate inside air.

    Request: Bud Light Clone Recipe

Most people I know brainwashed enough to call bud light their favorite beer have no taste. Try this. Soak the labels off a six pack of BL. Pop the top and tell him it's your latest cloning effort. If he doesn't like it he's a closed minded as-hole and doesn't deserve freshly brewed beer.
