    First stuck sparge, and was it a doosie...

    I think the problem is the Paint Strainer that you used, it has a real fine screen... I'v pained cars for 30 yrs and use them all the time. I tried them myself for straining the wort into the carboy on PM batches & they would plug up FAST!

    Cant U build leg extensions? Or just build your own base the hieght U want it? I know not everybody has a welder, but if U do this would be the way I would go. If fact I am thinking of buying the 15 gal but without the stand so I can build to suit my needs........

    I have Beer Smith and it list Lactose SG=1.035 Dry yield fine grain? 76% Max in Batch 10% This is all that is listed for it :mug:

    Does Flaked Barley Require a Protein Rest?

    Flaked Barley: Flaked unmalted barley is often used in Stouts to provide protein for head retention and body. It can also be used in other strong ale styles. Use 0.5-1 lb. per 5 gal batch.     AG Stout, please critique

    I would drop the .5 lb carapils for a dry stout and stouts arnt suppose to be hoppy. the 2oz of fuggles is just right...everything else looks great and will make a nice stout.....

    Just go to a store that sells GOOD beer, and you can get the returned bottles for the 10 cent deposit, at least that is what it is here....
