Funny things you've overheard about beer

I used to live in uptown Minneapolis, and hung out with a lot of punk bands. Every time any of my friends had a party, the beer provided was PBR...if we ran out of that, the backup beer was Black Label. I remember asking, "what the hell is Black Label?". And somebody responded, "it's Canada's...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Was going to brew NB's Rebel Rye on Friday, but when I went to make my starter, the smack pack never inflated. I've had this happen before, so I decided to make the starter anyway to test the yeast. I poured it into the flask and it was a weird brown color and smelled like a fart...

What I did for beer today

Me too. She texted me last night and said "you almost got divorced! I heard a boom and thought you beer exploded again". Turns out the cat knocked something off the counter in the bathroom, and she thought it was my beer. My last two beers blew up pretty bad. She insisted that I use...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Brewed my honey-basil double pale ale yesterday. First partial mash went alright, was easy enough, just missed my og...was shooting for 1.078 and hit 1.072. Oh well. Pretty pumped to see how it'll turn out. Come June I'll pack 12 bombers into 2 boxes and ship them to the cabin we rented in...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

My folks are coming to visit for the weekend, and my dad wants to see how brewing works. Lucky for me, I need to get my honey-basil double pale brewed for my buddy's wedding in June. I've never done a partial mash recipe before, so this ought to be interesting. Actually pretty glad I'll...

Funny things you've overheard about beer

I recently went to a bar/restaurant that boasts the biggest selection of beers on tap in town. Now, they do have a few Montana craft beers on tap, but the majority of them are BMC beers...they are especially excited about their newest beers on tap, Batch 19 and 3rd Shift (I believe both are...

northern brewer barley wine - any tips ?

I already changed my mind on the oak...after doing some reading, I think I'm going to soak my oak cubes in a red wine now. Yummy. Also might cut out the orange if I'm adding wine soaked oak? Don't know if those 2 will mix well

northern brewer barley wine - any tips ?

I just ordered this kit too...I found out I'll be a daddy again and since swmbo can't drink, I promised I wouldn't go crazy brewing summer beers. Blowoff and starter go without saying. although my last 2 big beers had VERY LARGE blowoffs, and I was out of town for work both times...

What I did for beer today

My last order showed up at my house and my wife called to tell me that a bag of dme exploded all over everything! Bummer... BUT, the fine young men and women at Midwest Supplies came through again...replaced at no charge to me! They are a hell of a staff

Heads up hop heads - Mosaic (HBC 369) at freshops!

No, I'm just saying that's what I have on hand...sorry, I guess I didn't make that clear at all. Any thoughts on how much of what I should use? And no, this isn't the recipe from byo...I thought I'd try my own take on the idea...the byo recipe doesn't use honey malt, just the .5lbs of honey...
