How to add Northern Brewer Gold Malt Syrup to software?

I tried creating a recipe in Brewtarget and BeerSmith for an extract brew that I did. The problem is, I don't see the Northern Brewer Gold Malt Syrup in either database and I don't know what number to punch in for it.

Should my fermentation be complete when I transfer to secondary?

It's an extract kit, so there was no mashing involved. The kit called for 2 months in the secondary, and I know that with beer patience is key. I am willing to wait that long. I plan to brew a hefeweizen next, so that will be drinkable before the tripel. I didn't taste it yet. Maybe I'll...

Should my fermentation be complete when I transfer to secondary?

So, once my SG stays the same for a few days I should transfer? The reason I want to transfer is because I would like to brew again and I don't want to buy another fermenter just yet.

Should my fermentation be complete when I transfer to secondary?

My belgian tripel has been in the primary for 11 days now. I would like to transfer it to a secondary fermenter to age it for two months and to free up my primary. My OG was 1.071 and I am expecting 1.017 as my FG. Do I transfer when I reach my FG, or sooner? I don't understand whether my...

    Steeping grains in BrewPal?

I am messing around with BrewPal, trying to get a feel for it. I can't figure out how to add steeping grains to it though. Do I just add it as part of the grain bill?

Is it worth going elecrtic right away?

I am very new to brewing, only brewed twice. I am already thinking about all grain, but know that my stove will struggle to do 5 boils. The way I see it, my options are to either get a propane burner, or look into electric. What attracts me to electric, is the ability to move the brew...

    Kegging without dedicated kegerator/freezer

The other option that I saw is keeping a mug in your freezer and use something like Whiskey Stones. Should chill your beer down to a drinkable temperature.

Was my boil too lazy? (video inside)

I've seen that post. I don't want to get ahead of myself.

Miss Keggy Gets a New Hat

Hmm, setting up an RSS feed for kegerator on craigslist. Thanks for the tip.

Miss Keggy Gets a New Hat

Yeah, it seems to still cost around $500. I won't be getting into kegging for a while, but when I do I would want to have a kegerator ready.

Was my boil too lazy? (video inside)

While I have plenty of space on my deck, it's too cold be outside. Maybe when the warmer months roll around, and I try all-grain I'd consider doing full boils.

Miss Keggy Gets a New Hat

Thanks for you reply. I was just wondering because I saw that most mini-fridges can barely hold two kegs.

    Belgian Tripel???

I almost bought a tripel for my first kit, but the person in the store advised me against it. It will take much longer to ferment, and it will be hard for you to wait. Also, you have to pitch more yeast, which means either using more packets or making a starter. Start with something that you can...

This is beautiful! What is the fridge you are using?

Was my boil too lazy? (video inside)

Thanks to everyone for the response. I am not terribly worried, was just curious. It's a tripel, so I won't be drinking this till May. Heres' the song that's in the background It was actually last.fm station based on "Flogging Molly". I probably spent 20 minutes trying to figure out that...

Was my boil too lazy? (video inside)

I am worried that I never got a good enough boil going. Here's a video . Was this boil too slow? It's about 3 gallons on an electric stove, using a stainless steel pot wrapped in some reflective insulation.

    Decanting the starter

My starter is quite large so I do not want do dump all if it. So is the white stuff at the bottom the yeast?

    Decanting the starter

I made a starter, refrigerated it, but I am not sure how much liquid to dump out. Is the white stuff on the bottom the settled yeast, and that's all I care about?

Less than satisfied with my first brew

I tasted it when I bottled it, and it tastes similar to what it did back then. Like some strong ice tea.
