Is a Belgian Tripel too ambitious for a second brew?

@logan3825, I know I'll brew something else before I drink the tripel. @smizak, Since I would be buying a kit, won't it come with the correct amount of yeast?

Is a Belgian Tripel too ambitious for a second brew?

My first brew was bottled on Sunday, and I am already thinking about my second brew. My kit came with a secondary carboy, so I figure I should try to brew something that would actually utilize it. I am really into Belgian strong ales right now, so I found two extract kits: one from Northern...

I guess I could try getting a Refractometer

Looking for a good long beer thief?

I don't see myself drinking the whole sample, at least not of my current brew. It's room temperature, but also too bitter. I think the bitterness is just "green beer", so I am not worried about that. The other flavors that come through are quite tasty.

Looking for a good long beer thief?

The beer thief that came with my kit is pretty crappy. It's too short, so I have to take multiple samples from my 6 gallon carboy. Also, the pieces don't seal well, so beer drips out when I talk samples. My LHBS doesn't have anything better in stock. What would you guys recommend? Also, am I...

Wow, 4 pages? I looked at the bottles yesterday, and the bend might have been the trick of the light. Some of the caps look wierd on the side, but when i flip the bottles upside down, i don't see any problems. I will RDW (can't HAHB yet, since it's my first batch).

Sorry if I sounds freaked out. Maybe there needs to be a sub-forum here titled "Panicking about my first brew/bottling/kegging session"

I don't have any starsan, I used iodophore for sanitation last time. I think what I'll do is just fill a sink with water and submerge a bottle in it.

I am using 12 Siera Nevada bottles. As a matter of fact, I specifically bought two 6-packs of the stuff because I liked the shape. How did you deal with the dents? Do they leak CO2?

I am not 100% sure, and I am kind of hoping it's just the lighting. But, I saw this early in the morning, so I have had my entire workday to obsess over it.

Sounds like a good idea. I'll do that tonight with all my suspect bottles.

Ok, that's a good tip. Before I started capping my beer, i tried it out on a few bottles, the cap looked good, so I went to town.

Oh, I pressed down as hard I could. I guess I'll go and look for a proper way to use a capper

I like that idea, thanks. The plastic bottle seems to be getting harder, so I know there's carbonation happening. Hypothetically, what happens if a lot of bottles are un-carbonated? Can I just gently pour them back into my bottling bucket, add some priming sugar and re-bottle?

Did I screw up capping? Picture inside

As you can see from the picture, they are bent. They've been carbonating from about 2 days now, so I am weary to replace the caps. How can I find out if the seal is good? Will just flipping the bottle upside down and seeing if there's a leak be enough? Should I submerge the bottle in some...

I am pretty sure it's Red Baron There was no manual with it, but I think I know what you mean about the stem. I'll check it out tonight.
