    Ruination Redux

Anyone else brew this recipe lately? I'm going to rack to secondary and dry hop tomorrow...The hydro sample is pretty damn good. I used columbus for bittering, and I will be using cascade for the dry hop. I am using whole leaf for the dry hop. Any harm in just dropping the leaves into the...

    First Real IPA

Yeast is pitched and the fermenter is in a big tub of water to keep from over heating. SG=1.070. Hopefully that one pack of S-05 will do the trick. I can't say Im the biggest fan of leaf hops. Do most people filter out the hops when then transfer from kettle to primary? I strained them...

    First Real IPA

Thanks for the response Hooter. Just began my mash. I'm bummed... I asked the LHBS employee if I should pitch two and he thought one would be fine...Any harm in pitching tonight as planned and adding a second pack tomorrow?? Probably about 12 hours later....

    First Real IPA

...and just store the left over 1/2 ounce of leaf cascade in a ziplock in the freezer until its time to dry hop?

    First Real IPA

Hey folks, my first brew ever was a Brewers Best IPA...Minimal hops, no dry hopping...It didnt really seem like a real IPA. I'm finally brewing up my second IPA and got all the ingredients around for tonight. Of course, as is often the case, the LHBS hop selection was limited today. I am...

Quick question about brewing apfelwein in smaller containers

I think I would go ahead and pitch the whole packet of Montrachet. I just bottled my first apfelwein (6 gallon batch) and I used two packets of Montrachet. I figured that one packet could probably handle 6 gallons, but to be sure that it fermented out completely I went with two.

    Air lock required during secondary?

I do believe that co2 will continue to be released throughout the secondary process

    Crafting Tribute Beers

I'm looking forward to brewing up a tribute beer for the four night stretch of Phish shows at Red Rocks here in Colorado at the end of July. I'm not sure what the theme will be or the type of beer...I'll probably just come up with some sort catchy name like "Fluffhead Red." I'm excited to...

I may have become a hop head

I ate a hop pellet (cascade) on my last brew day and thought it would be great for the astronaughts...Maybe I really just wanted an IPA at the time, but it really reminded me of a powdered/freeze dried IPA! Just like that astronaught ice cream.

    whats up with AHB

Another +1 in support of AHS. I have never had a delay in shipping and have had great results with my first few recipes. I will continue to order from them and am constantly searching the site looking for my next brew. Next up should be a Stone IPA of some sort...Cant wait.

    Man, I love Apfelwein

Wow...This is one amazing thread. I read the first 30 pages and got just about every question I had answered. I finally had to skip to the last page and give me eyes a break. Can't wait to whip up my first AW Saturday! Thanks in advance EdWort

    Moving Pieces (kinda Long)

Flyboy, the same thing is happening with me as we speak. This is my first time using a secondary and I got the same krausen bits floating around. I thought they would settle out, but after 14 days they have not. I'm planning on racking to the bottling bucket tomorrow and if they are still...

Partial Mash Brew Day and Wyeast WMD

Hey Folks, got my first partial mash brew completed and sealed in the primary. I think it went pretty well. The partial mash is really pretty simple and I think I did alright. My water was probably a bit hot at 160* just about the entire 45 minutes. I sort of combined the instructions from...

    It's Friday...who's brewing this weekend?

I'm also doing up my first partial mash...The AHS Double Chocolate Stout. Should be fun. I really thought I would win that $50 AHS CO state sale gift card though. Maybe next year. Christian

Thank you Impatient and Fat Guy... I'm going to keep reading up on this and am really looking forward to moving away from just extract and steeping grains.

    Partial Mash Clarification

THanks for the reply. Big difference between quarts and gallons :) My cooking set up is weak. I'm yet to be kicked out of the kitchen so that is where I remain. I have a regular old 4 burner electric stove. I typically boil 2.5-3 gallons of wort at the most.
