    Oxygenating starters?

I only use a loose foil on my starters. I do not use oxygen bottles yet. I feel I got a boost in fermentation start time once I started shaking (or just pouring from high) my wort in the fermenter. I also believe I got another boost in start time once I started shaking my starters into a...

Looking for brewing software or app suggestions

Or just pay for it. You can afford brew equipment and to brew some multiple of 5 batches that requires you to keep switching emails but can't afford $14.99 per YEAR for this tool?

Technique to add grain to strike water solo

I am also a dumper. I mill into a 6 gallon bucket, fill my 52 quart Coleman with my strike water and just dump the whole bucket in. I move it a little to the left and right as I dump. Stir it up with the paddle. Never had any issue with dough balls. I also mash at 1.5qt/lb

Looking for brewing software or app suggestions

Brewers Friend. Couldn't live without it now. Clean modern UI compared to others, easy to access from anywhere, easy to use recipe builder and calculators. I love being able to easily look back over all of my recipes in planning stages and ready to brew, and all of the notes I made on each...

    Yakima Hops

This experiment touches on the idea of old hops that were properly stored, much older than the ones you are referring to but I would suspect that Yakima keeps their hops stored well. http://brulosophy.com/2015/09/28/the-impact-of-age-hops-exbeeriment-results/

    Show Us Your Label

For an upcoming brew I am working on, a session pale ale using mostly only Jester Hops. The style is old photo mixed with a take on an old "The Fool" tarot card. Had to look it up myself but the card always includes a person thoughtlessly doing something at the edge of a cliff, and also a dog.

Danby DAR440BL Mini-Fridge Conversion to Kegerator...

It is so frustrating that photobucket made that change, ruined linked images all over the forum. You can usually still get to them if you go to the users gallery and take a look, though not as easy to follow along with the forum thread. In this case they are here...

    Grain Bill Mistake

I would recommend putting your new recipe into a calculator like Brewers Friend and seeing what you can come up with. On a quick entry it looks like if you hop it around 20 IBU or so you might end up with something like a Doppelbock or Baltic Porter, at least in the sense of the numbers (ABV...

    help to chose new equipment

Haha no I do not work there, just aware of them since I started looking into electric builds. They came up easily along with the others when starting my research and I noticed they were Canadian. It is not an uncommon business practice here to list in USD and target that market, not strange to...

How often do you buy beer as a homebrewer?

When I am getting a recipe together for a style I have not brewed before or in a while I will buy various commercial examples of the style to help me settle on a target profile. Much less beer purchased than before I started brewing though.

    help to chose new equipment

From their FAQ it appears as though they assemble and ship from their Canadian location. They are a Canadian company that focuses mostly on US sales as that would clearly be a much larger customer base. https://brausupply.com/pages/frequently-asked-questions

    Malt Mill Recommendations

@augiedoggy & @wilserbrewer Thank you both for the links and information, I will have a look at those threads. I own and have been using the BC mill for about a year now, so far so good. I will watch out for the signs of failure though now. Thanks again, always great information on HBT.

    Malt Mill Recommendations

Do you have some evidence that the Barley Crusher does not use as they state on their website "1018 Cold Rolled Steel for the rollers" or that this is not a hard enough of hardened steel for this application? An honest question as all I have to go on is their word of course. I agree they...
