I've got a side-by-side refrigerator that I'm trying to convert into a two-tap kegerator.
I'm trying to drill the holes for the taps on the front door of the fridge side & it's been *very* frustrating. I'm using my trusty Craftsman electric drill (*not* cordless), handed down to me by my...
Yep, that's the one.
I was concerned about the tightness - I hand tightened it last night, turned on the gas a little & the results were scary cold white CO2 condensed everywhere, so I wanted to make sure I wasn't crazy.
Thanks, guys, as usual!
Warning - kegging + CO2 noob here :)
I got a 5lb CO2 tank from a friend & did a tank swap at the local Airgas. I'm trying to hook up my regulator to it so I can set up my new AHS-sourced kegging setup for the first time.
How 'tightly screwed' should the regulator be onto the CO2 tank...
I was going to brew up a ESB & started a yeast starter for my White Labs San Diego Super Yeast. The starter's bubbling nicely in a conical flask.
Unfortunately, circumstances are stopping me from brewing tonight. Is there anything I can do with this yeast starter so I can use it in a week or...
Yeah, I dry hop with them... I've been letting them soak in hot water, didn't think of using some of my cleaner! I'll give that a try after a good boil.
So I've done some extract brews + some partial mash brews and I notice my hop-bag is getting harder to clean - it's definitely less white than it was when I bought it, instead it's a nice dull green...
And recommendations on how to best clean nylon hopbags & get them back to white?
Yeah, their other imports are easy to get a hold of here in TX, but I've never seen those cans of Best... Are all those reviews from places on the East Coast? Hmmm....
I went home to Scotland recently & had my first Bellhaven Best in six years. Damn it was good tasting it again. Creamy, thick, tasty. The various Bellhaven ales that get imported here in the US just aren't the same.
Good to know I haven't killed it! I did 170degrees to follow the AHS "recipe" from the kit.
This is my first solid partial mash that's gone well, combined with a yeast starter for the first time, so I'm wanting it to go well! 15m till the next hops ;)
And yes, I'm relaxed about it & drinking my /last/ successful brew, a nice pale ale ;) Just curious how the extra long mash will affect it.
When I got back to it, was at about 147 degrees, just sitting there an extra 15 minutes.
I'm doing my second partial mash kit from AHS after doing a couple of (very straightforward + successful extract kits). My first partial mash was a *mess* with poor temperature control all over the place on a brand new propane burner. This time, everything was going great with my mash - got to...
My wife's out at a friend's for the night, so I'm brewing up the AHS Anniversary English Pale Ale I've been waiting to brew for a week. Because she's out, I get to stink up the house, getting around the burner problems I've been having ;)
Yeah, I might investigate some sort of shield. Stoopid wind.
Listening to that propane safety podcast right now; confirming what I expected unfortunately.
Thanks for the advice, guys!
The wind is the big problem with doing it on the patio. We're on the edge of our town with little to act as a wind breaker, so we get really bad wind whipping around. As a test, I fired up the burner in the evening the other night & put some spare bricks around it...
