    best beer bars in Austin

Like I said, anything north of 45th street ;) BlackStar's right beside a light rail stop too, makes it real easy to get to. Great attitude, great people, *great* beer. Love that place.

Whip-In is worth a visit too - Indian food & great beer selection.

    best beer bars in Austin

I know people living south of the river think anything past 45th Street is the suburbs, but suggesting Black Star is in Pflugerville/Georgetown is a /bit/ of a stretch. An 11 mile stretch to Pflugerville, in fact. I wish it was in Pflugerville, mind... It /is/ a great bar though, I'm a...

    BIAB Brewing (with pics)

I'm happy to buy it as a starter to see if BIAB works for me ;) Thanks, thughes. Looking to do this brew tomorrow... Should work 'as is' for BIAB, right?

    BIAB Brewing (with pics)

This thread is a big inspiration... I've been doing extract/partials for about a year now & have that process down pretty good. A good friend who has been brewing for /years/ gave me an old 11 gallon pot as a birthday brewing gift, and I think I'm going to step up to doing all grain BIAB. If...

    American IPA Anonymous IPA

Understood. Any suggestions on best way to convert to PM?

    American IPA Anonymous IPA

Anyone done this as a Partial Mash? I'm tempted to keep the speciality grains as is, and use maybe a 1lb of 2-row to cut costs, with 8lb of LME to substitute... Or would that be totally off base?

    Strain Before bottling?

It makes me feel good. I see a visible difference in the clarity of my beers when I do it.

    Strain Before bottling?

Same here. I boil the hop bag for five to ten minutes to sanitize it before I'm using it. And soak the rubber band in sanitizer etc.

    Strong Bitter Common Room ESB

Brew done! Grains steeped, 0.5oz of EKG as FWH, did 1/3 of the 7.5lbs for the 60 minute boil with the rest at 15m. OG was ~1.057 it looked like. Using WLP005 with a nice looking starter. I used all East Kent Golding as that's what I had handy ;) Need to buy some Fuggles as I like my EPA/ESBs...

How bad will my house smell?

I did my first brew in the kitchen while my wife & kids were out for the day. Wife came home, hated the stink. I bought a Bayoux burner & every other brew has been outside, either up front or on the back porch, depending on the wind/weather. I kinda like the whole outside brew, attending the...

Is this my first infection (with pics!)?

I did just remember that this was relatively high OG for me (1.060) & I'd doublepitched the yeast, so maybe it was working more than I'm used to? Thanks for the reassurances that it's likely just yeast, makes me feel better.

Is this my first infection (with pics!)?

Waaay bigger than the yeast mats I'm used to. No sour smell etc as far as I can tell, though my stomach turned when I saw 'em - the beer actually smells sweet (as I'd expect) looks good...

Is this my first infection (with pics!)?

Been brewing for almost a year, still consider myself a noob. I've been keeping things clean/sanitised as much as possible, but this looks like I might need to give this bucket a right good soak & scrub... :-/ Opened up my Belgian Golden Ale (with syrup addition) that's been fermenting for...

    Strong Bitter Common Room ESB

Grabbed my grain, LME & yeasties from AHS yesterday. Love having that place so close to work... Will get my starter going tomorrow ahead of brewing it on Monday.

    Strong Bitter Common Room ESB

Yeah, I might just go with the steep. A little more money for the extra extract, but a simpler brew. That might just work ;) You doing an all-grain?
