    Cider test batch

Racked it to secondary today, tasted applely with a bitter finish, gravity was 1.010, so I assume it still has a little way to go in order to be the dry cider I want. Looked better after racking, now just gotta be patient and hope it clears up.

    surprising swamp cooler lager success

Good to hear a great success story! I've got the same practice going on in my garage. In CT, we have been battling a brutal heatwave, with almost a week of 90 - 100 degree days. and i have only one AC unit in the house (bedroom) anyways, I setup a swamp cooler and change ice 3 times a day (my...

    Ferment in the Brew kettle?

The biggest problem I see, is giving up your brew kettle for several weeks. This practice would not allow you to make more than one batch, unless your a money bags with several sealable brew kettles. Plus you really need to get the wort off the boiled hops and aerate it, so better to transfer...

    Old Sol - new label(s)

I like the first one, there is alot you can do with that concept, by changing the Sun graphic and background to represent different seasons or different beer styles, such as; a winter warmer with a sun cresting a snow covered peak, or a eclipse stout with black label and soft edge glow.

    Becker Brau Logo

You might try filling the space between the inner and outer ovals with the texture, and outlining the Bs in black, this way the texture has a stronger presence, and the type will have better contrast to the background.

    Couple of my label designs

Funny thing is, I'm so proud of all my clean bottles, that I don't want to label them, so I just mark the caps with a sharpie, and put the label art on a "now serving" sign in the kitchen. I should label a six pack of each, and store them away to age a while.

    Cider test batch

So this cider has been sitting for 5 weeks in primary. should I leave it alone another month, or bottle it? Can I clear it with Gelatin finings, and cold crashing in the fridge for a few days? How much priming sugar should I use for bottling a 1 gal batch?

My Stirplate... Cheap and Easy Build...

I read this thread, and decided I can build a stirplate! Easy right. HA! I already have an old hard drive for the magnets, and several 12 volt wall chargers, all i need is a fan. So I asked my IT guy at work for a 12 volt fan, and he gladly obliged. Got it home and went to wire it up, and I got...

    greedy with you beer?

Their the ones being greedy.... I shared some beer with a friend who came over last Saturday to hang out and play guitar, then surprised him with a six pack out at the car when he was leaving, he thanked me all weekend. So it comes down to who your friends are and how much they appreciate the...

    My labels

Real nice label designs, your style is consistent, so no worries with the illustrative nature, it certainly shows your lighthearted approach to naming your beers. you'll need to have a brew off to see who gets to keep the name, I'l judge, just send me beer.

    Higher gravity from better efficiency?

Brewed a dead guy ale clone kit this weekend. The kit was extract with about 2.5 lbs of specialty grains, so i took more of a mini-mash approach and worked hard on maintaing 150 degrees mash temp for about 45 minutes. Then strained and sparged prior to moving onto the normal extract additions...

    attempt at swamp cooler

Looks like a good start, I'm new to brewing and just starting the agonizing battle of fermentation temp control too. I did the same thing with a big tub from lowes, and keep swapping out ice packs a couple times a day. Everyone keeps suggesting the obvious "fridge with temp controller" which I'm...
