    Bottle washing tips

I use a jet bottle washer that hooks to the kitchen sink, and a vinator filled with star san. rinse the bottle, brush, rinse again, hit it on the vinator and set it aside... next. once you get a good rhythm going, you'll crank out 50 bottles in about 15 - 20 minutes.

    Beer Mixing Suggestions?

I like to mix Stouts with Pumpkin ales in the fall. It can be fun finding new combinations in both quaffable libation and name... case in point, a buddy and I were mixing Captain Lawence Pumpkin Ale with Smuttynose Snowblower stout... after several pints of this concoction, we merged the name...

    Stir the yeast cake?

How long has it been at 1.02? What temp are you fermenting at? I've had a couple stuck fermentations lately due to colder temps (65 - 68). If you move it to a warmer spot (70 - 75) and agitate the fermenter [you don't even have to open it], then check the gravity in a week and then every 3 days...

Or ask your local Liquor store owner... my guy will find...

    Squeezing the sack and overhoppage

to squeeze or not to squeeze... has been expertly debated numerous times, here's a link: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f37/grain-bag-squeezing-185039/ I like the quote from Monty3777 "squeeze your sack like it owes you money" As for the massive hop additions... for me more is better. but...

    Cider test batch

Well, my patience and space are wearing out for this little bottle of cider... I'll never do a 1 gallon batch again... I Left in secondary for 3 weeks, then cold crashed it in the fridge for a week and bottled it on sunday. 10 bottles now stashed away to carb up and hopefully age a while...

    Swamp cooler question

+1 on the 30 gal trash can, you'll still need to vent it to let co2 out. I've had great success with this simple setup.

    Storing beer!

Drink more or get some friends... Just kidding! We store bottles in the garage, transfer from there to fridge, and from there to mouth! If ya get to a point with major excess, start gifting or bartering!

    A Matter of Temperature

You'll be ok, I live in CT and we've been taxed with record heat for weeks. And no AC. I did the swamp cooler thing with 2 beers and a cider, me and the SWMBO change ice bottles 3-4 times a day, and have had real good luck with keeping temps below a critical level. Move it around or swamp cool...

First PM and my own recipe

Thanks Yooper, seems like its close enough to fit the style, my color seems a bit on the dark side [pun] and ABV is a bit short, but I have still not adjusted my gravity reading, so this might actually fall in place. I know i'm in the hybrid range with the cascade and fuggles - just sounded fun...

First PM and my own recipe

Made the move to partial mash, 4 lbs of grain in a large sack, steeped fir 90 mins in preheated oven (read that advise here, cheers to whomever I owe credit). The rest was normal extract and hop additions. I was a little dissapointed with missing my OG, till I just thought of the temp...

Trying to Think of Logo Ideas

I see a comical theme, considering your in VA... I'd play up the whole north/south Mason-Dixie thing. Maybe an old pickup painted with pinstripes or gray and blue with Damn Yankees Brewing Co. Logo on the door, kegs bouncing around in the bed as it races cross the Mason-Dixie line.

    Siphoning with an Auto-Siphon

I had the same problem, when i got my auto siphon, the HBS gave me 3/8 ID tubing, and it gave me all kinds of air leak problems, quick fix was to use a couple zip ties to clamp it on the siphon cane, later i bought some 5/16 ID tubing, and no problems since.
