Electric Brewery - Supply Line Sanity Check

We followed a similar plan with our arc welder: running 50amp service even if the welder will probably never pull that much. We used 6/3 and pulled it through 3/4" plastic tubing along the garage wall. We installed an outlet to match the plug, a dryer cord from Lowe's -- I don't think that...

    What's wrong with bottling?

With the caveat that I've only bottled four 5-gallon batches, I have to say that I get a childlike thrill every time I walk into our bottle-filled ferm room.

Beer Tools Pro vs. Beer Alchemy

I'm playing with Beer Alchemy now that I'm a few batches in. My hope is to combine a recipe / inventory tool with a spreadsheet to track basic info about my fermentation (such as daily swamp cooler temps or SG readings). My brother is working through a few PC alternatives. In general, I...

    What's wrong with bottling?

I'm now four batches into bottling. The process isn't as arduous as I'd thought, although we often have three people working the "bottling line." I think the most depressing aspect is cracking open the bottle a week later and adding to the "to be washed" pile.

    Man, I love Apfelwein

We've recently bottled a first batch of Apfelwein after five weeks. There are indications that live yeast is still running around in the bottles. I'm wondering if the cause might be slow fermentation? our yeast? or another factor? We used grocery store juice, bleached white sugar (with a...

Cleaning Advice for Rogue IIPA Fliptops?

The title pretty much sums it up. My brother has two 750ml Rogue IIPA fliptops, made of a ceramic or pottery type material. Can this bottle be cleaned with Oxy? Can it be soaked (since the bottle itself has several months of dust and growth (?) inside)? Any advice is greatly appreciated!

    Keezer Compressor issue

I'm not HVAC, but doesn't Freon go into the compressor? So if you managed to expose and replace the line (perhaps with a similar copper pipe?), you'd still have to repressurize the system. A/C repairmen carry around a small tank which they use for this.

Gaggle of kegs for trade/sale (Philly area)

Hi, My brother and I will be brewing in Southern Maryland but we are from Bucks County in PA. Still up there quite often. We are looking for 2-3 of the 15gal sanke kegs for our eventual AG setup. We'll be traveling until the end of May, but if we find an acceptable price, we could pick the...

Growing barley and wheat at home

It sounds like this is much too labor intensive for small plots. However, to satisfy my curiosity, how much does soil quality, weather, etc. effect the product? I'm mentally comparing the barley field to a vineyard and wondering if "terroir" plays a similarly important role. If not, is it...

    Brewatron

@Haggismaximus - Yes I think I am. I'm still nailing down all the terms. Right now, although I haven't started actually brewing, I'm trolling the DIY projects for design ideas, trying to pin down the engineering and, in this case, where the materials came from. I'll do some googling. Thanks...

Hi! Thanks for stopping by. Seems like Maryland has a decently active community.

    Hi from Southern Maryland

Thanks. I'll check it out. Is there any consensus on mounted thermometers (brand or installation technique)?

    Hi from Southern Maryland

Rather than start a new thread, I'll update here for now. We've researched starter kits, and plan on purchasing a "deluxe" kit from Austin Homebrew Supply along with a bottling bucket and an extra, larger carboy. We'll start with some pale ale extracts. We've located at least one sanke keg...

    Brewatron

Beautiful. Can you offer a few details or a term for that kind of piping so that I can google it? Thanks.

    Upland Brewing Co Bloomington Indiana

I spent a couple years in Bloomington at IU and Upland is great brewery. I'm looking forward to trying to reproduce their Wheat at some point in the future.

    Hi from Southern Maryland

This is "Merg"s brother. Thanks for the warm welcome. My buddy in Baltimore is home brewing out of his bedroom. It was too cool not to try. So hopefully we'll be full of questions in the next few weeks. I should probably add that my favorite microbrewery is Upland in Bloomington, IN. I...

best price on a complete starter kit?

Has anyone compiled a list of basic components with potential upgrades? That would be very useful for people (like myself) trying to decide between kits and à la carte purchases.
