    Noobs Question on Steeping

Getting up to 170 is too high IMO. I heat my water up to 155-160, then steep for a half hour, and I do press to get some excess water out.

Keep SWMBO Happy and Brew Beer at the Same Time

This looks fantastic. I think I can get 3 cups wet grain from my steeping grains (I am doing extract). Always seemed like a waste to trash them all. Thank you!

Equally Obnoxious Hockey Trash Talk Thread, eh?

Enjoy it because it doesn't matter. I hope the basement isn't too cold :)

Equally Obnoxious Hockey Trash Talk Thread, eh?

We have Antii Raanta in Rockford, put up good numbers in Europe. Think it's time we see what he's got.

I just want to say that whoever I was defending khabibulin against a few weeks ago- you win.

    The HOBBIT......don't bother

I will also say this- and others may disagree- but I think the casting and acting for LoTR and the Hobbit was stellar. Some of the writing may be a little off, but the acting is fantastic.

    The HOBBIT......don't bother

I hear you, don't get me wrong. I guess I just like escaping to Middle Earth in some capacity once and awhile. I think the thing that bothered me the most was Azog, because it was worked in as an active part of the plot. I felt the rest of the things thrown in, like the foreshadowing for LOTR...

    The HOBBIT......don't bother

I thought all of Jackson's adaptions have been great, and I'm a pretty diehard fan of the books. There were a few head scratchers, like Azog, and elves at Helm's Deep. But to say Hobbit 2 isn't worth seeing is crazy! The beautiful views alone make it worth it. I just stopped comparing movie...

    'Cool Brewing' user tips?

I definitely recommend it. I set it up like BxBrewer showed above with folded up paper towel insulating the probe of an aquarium thermometer taped to the side. It's pretty darn accurate. Right now I'm fermenting a brown between 60-63 degrees and am using a gallon jug of ice I'm switching out...

    Stale beer- Oxidized?

I feel like I'm meticulous with cleaning; I definitely don't let anything sit around dirty. However I just learned today I could take my wand and spigot apart, and while there is no visible residue it's the only source of infection I can think of. Ill take everyone's advice and replace some...

    Stale beer- Oxidized?

I hope so. And I hope this fixes the problem- if it doesn't, I'm at a total loss.

    Stale beer- Oxidized?

FWIW I broke down my spigot and bottling wand- never knew they disassembled. There isn't any visible gunk but man my spigot smells funky. My auto-siphon and wand are relatively new, could I get away with just getting a new bucket (I think I'm going to cut the spigot out all-together) or are they...

    Stale beer- Oxidized?

Thanks for the replies everyone. I guess infection does sound like a logical conclusion. Is it better to just hook my wand up to my auto siphon and use a regular bucket as opposed to a spigot? I clean all my stuff out but it has been in use for about a year now. When I hold it up to the light I...

    Stale beer- Oxidized?

I've had a disturbing trend start with my beers. The past three batches I've had (IPA, Scottish, and another IPA) have all come out great- a 'best batch yet' taste for me- and then quickly gone south. Like I'll have a few one night, and the next night it nose-dives. I made a similar thread...

First BIAB/First AG/2.5 gallon recipe question

Thanks for the tips. I'm excited to make the jump.

First BIAB/First AG/2.5 gallon recipe question

Ok great. Was probably a silly question but I wanted to make sure. Tired of doing extract but can't quite upgrade my kettle right now.

First BIAB/First AG/2.5 gallon recipe question

I want to start doing AG via BIAB, but I only have a 20 qt kettle so to do full volume mash I have to do 2.5 gallon batches, which is fine since I'm usually the only one that drinks it and I don't think my stove could handle more if it wanted to. I can find how to do BIAB, so I don't need to...

    IPA flavor degradation

Yeah I've tried to determine how hot by looking it up but it's just what came with my apartment. Either way ill cut it out as a variable by sanitizing individually. It's a starting point anyway.
