    quick HERMS controller build question

One other thing to consider is where you'll mount the control panel. For a few minutes during my build, I was going to mount the control panel under my stand. I decided that putting that box underneath a couple hundred pounds of water was a horrible idea, and mounted it on the garage wall. If...

    E-Stop ???

Think about your brew process, and what you would still want power running to in the event of an "emergency." There's no one right answer here, although the religion seems to be centered around wiring code; many folks will suggest that e-stops are not to code (and many will suggest that they...

What power % do you use?

I dial my PID back to 83% for my 12gal batches, after I hit a boil. Using a 5500W camco. I'm brewing in my garage, so I expect there are a number of weather related factors that could be influencing my number.

    Simple "analog" e-brewing questions

What batch sizes do you anticipate brewing? I started my system design by working backwards from the biggest beer that I could imagine reasonably making (for me, that's a belgian strong ale/barleywine which I brew once a year in September, for Christmas). A three wire dryer plug is going to...

    NanoBrewery build

Now that I'm caught up to post #1101, my only question for you, HBHoss, is: How much beer have you sold in the last four years? I guess what I want to understand is, "if I live in a state where I can self-distribute, how much beer do I need to sell to break even?"

1bbl - HERMS, RIMS, or direct

After some reflection, you probably want to find an online calculator for ramp times and run numbers through that. You may want to go 60A+, but that will put you into non-standardized parts, which will mean >$$$

1bbl - HERMS, RIMS, or direct

My $0.02, having just built a 1/2bbl electric brewstand, would be to go 50A and run two 4500w elements in HLT and two in BK. I use one 5500w in each right now, and the ramp time on 24 gallons from 67 to 155 is a little over an hour.

    Control panel pricing/e-brewery help

I would absolutely build again. $900 for a 50A setup. Learned a TON, thanks to folks on HBT. If you're handy with a multimeter, and have the patience to troubleshoot what will undoubtedly be one or two "head scratchers," you should source and build it yourself. 36 gallons over 3 batches on my...

    Control panel pricing/e-brewery help

I'm brewing batch #3 on my Kal clone tomorrow (15 gallons of an apricot IIPA). Ended up going with 25 gallon kettles, instead of blichmanns. Built the CP myself, with lots of ebay, amazon and ebrewsupply. Hit me up with questions, and post a LOT when you get started. HBT is an awesome resource...

    Hardywood Park Gingerbread Stout help.

cooper & eulipion - FWIW, I had beerstone in my stainless conical from probably over a year's worth of batches, which took HOURS to scrub off with BKF and a scrub pad. I then cleaned (PBW or equivalent) and sanitized (StarSan or equivalent) all of my cold/post-boil side equipment. I only...

    50 Amp Power Cord

I bought a 6', 50A range cord from amazon for $30. Hardwired it to my control panel... works like a charm. I just couldn't see why I would want to spend an extra ~$70 on a plug and outlet. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002YURAW/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20

Perhaps cooper meant Maris Otter? I'm planning my next brew, and am probably going to give this a shot.
