Trying to create a recipe from scratch, help?

You can check my thread. I just did the same thing in early March regarding trying to create a similar recipe to Alchemy Hour. https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f12/requesting-double-ipa-recipe-review-392717/ I brewed it in early March. I have kegged it but it is still sitting in my...

Double IPA Kern River Citra DIPA

Thanks guys. I'm going to dry hop in the keg at my basement temp of 68 to keep my aromas from blowing off as well. I'll be using the hop bags. I'll probably pull each addition out when the next is added. Or a hybrid where I pull the oldest addition out after 7 days.

Double IPA Kern River Citra DIPA

I plan on making this my next brew. Are you guys leaving each dry hop addition in there until bottling/kegging? Or are you pulling them out after 3 days. Sorry if that question was answered... I did not see that addressed. Thanks for the help.

It's official.....beer is good for you.

Yeah, but who HBT drinks "moderately". Not only to they brew and drink beer when they get a chance, but they read and write about it nearly daily. Haha. You can call me out, I'm sure there are a few that drink moderately. I can take the heat.

    My first Beer

*did you pressurize.... Buzzed up typo. Haha

    My first Beer

For you pressurize the keg and pull the relief valve multiple times? Co2 weighs more than oxygen. By doing this multiple times, you purge all the co2 out. I do it about 5 times.

need some help guys, IPA extract

“The syrups are approximately 20% water, so 4 pounds of dry malt extract (DME) is roughly equal to 5 pounds of liquid malt extract (LME)” Excerpt From: John J Palmer. “How to Brew.” Ray Daniels. iBooks. This material may be protected by copyright. Check out this book...

    My first Beer

I think your are doing really well. Don't worry so much! Haha. Your beer is going to be fine. You do a very good job paying attention to the finer details and you will be rewarded. If you are going to rack it and let it sit warm for another week, why not skip the carboy and go straight to the...

    Best place for beer equipment/supplies

This stuff is expensive. haha I have bought from northern brewer, midwest and morebeer. I believe I got a wort chiller, buckets and maybe carboys and some other miscellaneous stuff from morebeer. I have had no issues with that stuff so far (4 months). They had the cheapest shipping and...

    Adding cold water

You can add water if you want to. Did you hit your OG? Adding water will lower your OG. If your OG is high, I would consider adding water. Also, I don't always care if I come up a little short if I hit my OG (well as long as it is much less than a half gallon short).

    Dry hop in keg?

I'm just subscribing so I can track the responses. I'm interested too.

okay HBT, speed is of the essence... (bottling must start soon if at all tonight)

Let it sit in the fermenter until your not busy. No need to rush anything. Your beer should benefit from an additional week of sitting there. Then you will have time to figure out how much to reduce your priming sugar. Rushing now will just increase the chance you will do something you might...

When did you make the switch?

I switched after two batches. I do my mash in a rectangular cooler and batch sparge. I don't remember how long it took me to do extract. But I average 6 and a half hours from milling the grain until I am completely done and cleaned up. I don't know how long it takes others, but I usually have...

Primary fermentation in a 5 gal carboy?

Not big. Shooting for OG 1.053. The beer is somewhat of an easy, house type ale for me and my friends. I reduced the boil volume. I'm just thinking, worst case I won't come out with as much beer in the keg as I usually do. No big deal. Thanks for the replies.

Primary fermentation in a 5 gal carboy?

I am about 30 minutes into my mash with a pale ale. I thought I was going to be able to rack the beer that is in my 6 gal carboy to a 5 gal. Turns out, its not ready, so the 6 gal carboy will not be available. I have two 5 gal carboys. One is empty, and the other has beer that is ready...

    Things a Homebrewer Thinks

Do my friends drink all my beer faster than I can brew it because its as good as I think it is, or because its free? Or....do I just need to brew bigger batches and more often?

Any tech savvy folks out there?

+1 Tethering probably costs an extra 15-25 per month and Verizon has data limits. I am on Sprint with unlimited data. I haven't done it, but I think you can "jail break" the iPhone which would allow you to install third party software that lets you broadcast a wifi hotspot (pdanet) for a...

    3rd Batch - Blonde Ale

I borrowed this chart from another HBT member. It helped me learn.

    3rd Batch - Blonde Ale

Looks pretty good. I'd use .5 ounce for each addition and move the Citra up to 10 or 15 minutes to get more hop flavor with a similar bitterness for what you are going for. Also, why wait until May to brew it? I'd do it now and then you have plenty of time to let it condition and you won't be...

    New Home Brewer!

+1 And you will be very happy with your beers if you have some patience. I was guilty of drinking my first brews before they had been sufficiently conditioned. The taste ok to begin with, but they are so much better with sufficient conditioning and fridge time!
