    Autosiphon help...

+1 for sanitizing everything. If you're uncomfortable with the auto-siphon, practice while you're sanitizing it. A few things to remember: Your primary needs to be up higher than your secondary. Otherwise, you'll be pumping the siphon all day to continue the flow. You only need to pump until...

    List recipes

I've never heard of late extract additions either, but that would've definitely helped when I had to mix 7 lbs of DME into 2.5 gallons of water! Finally I got a bigger brew pot tho, so I'll be doing full boils from now on.

    Impact of Boil Size

The only thing I'm aware of it affecting is steeping specialty grains. For example, if your steeping Crystal 120L in 1.5 gallons of water you'll get a lot less of its color and flavor that if you boil the same amount in 4 gallons of water.

    bottling from primary

never done this before so I'd get someone else to double check this, but you could probably very gently stir in the sugar solution and wait a few hours before bottling. The hope is that it'll give enough time for at least some of the particulate to settle out and still not lose too much precious...

My first label, for my first beer

Looks great! I like the leafy thing under your company name a lot. Not the biggest fan of the font on the sides, but it seems to fit pretty well. Also, consider that when wrapped around the bottle, the two identical descriptions may be right next to each other (depending on the dimensions of...

Need help understanding my competition feed back

I agree with that too, most Double IPAs are pretty bitter. If you are going for a more bitter beer to fit the IPA category, I'd suggest a longer boil to add bitterness (maybe doing 1 oz chinook for 60 mins and keep the rest as is). However, if you really enjoy this beer and don't want to change...

Need help understanding my competition feed back

I don't have too much expertise, I'm fairly new to brewing, but heres my $0.02. It seems to me that a IIPA should have at least a 60 minute boil to give it some bitterness, maybe even 90 depending on how bitter you want to go with it. As for the aroma, I don't understand why your beer would lack...

    Astonishing Discovery

Yeah mine drips too, but I'm not too worried about it since I sanitize anyways. I'll try the palm of the hand thing next time, that'll probably do the trick. I feel stupid for getting so excited about such a small thing, but it definitely just made my life a little easier haha.

    Astonishing Discovery

I just made a great discovery/realization. I've seen ads for the BeerTheif, which is a thing used to take a sample of beer out of your carboy with ease (to take a hydro reading or a taste, etc). I thought it was a pretty neat idea because I've always taken samples either with an auto siphon or...

    Transfering Promash Recipes

No need to open and resave, just drag the file from one location to the next. For example, if you burn it to a disk, drag it from the disk to your My Documents/Beer_Recipes folder. Opening and resaving will work too, if thats what you prefer or are used to.

    Finally some success!

Thanks Yankee, that helps a lot. I'm not to the level of AG mashes (or even partial) yet, but I'm always trying to learn more.

    Yet another fermentation box build...

Very cool. Great work for not being much of a wood worker, those slanted vent slats (louvres?) looked awesome.

    Yet another fermentation box build...

I agree with kpr, shouldn't the cooling lines all be on the inside of the insulation? And where does the fan blow if its all sealed off by insulation? Either way tho, I'm sure it'll smell damn good. I love the smell of fresh cedar. EDIT: didn't see the second page of this thread, OOPS! so...

    Brew Stand Rebuild

Take THAT, erector set brewstand! Both of those look like pretty sweet setups. The second obviously looks better. Good job!

    I've been corrupted...

If I'm not mistaken, Lambics are made from a wild yeast that is common to a certain region of Belgium (or maybe Europe, and Belgium is part of the region). But you can probably buy the right strain. I also feel like I've read that the sourness is caused by bacteria, which I'd think you'd usually...

Kitchen Sink Faucet to Dispense Beer???

Pretty awesome idea, maybe not practical but it'll be real funny. It brings me back to the days of elementary school when the class president promised to put Coca-Cola in the water fountains... except better, with BEER!

    Priming Mistake?

Yeah I was worried about that too but my brewing partner insisted on it. We're both new to it but he was pretty persistant with "Nah man, we're boiling it so it'll be fine." It was boiled for about 3 minutes and steeped after that for about 10 minutes. It definitely added a sweet citrus aroma...

    New Label Design

Haha Stalin's Revenge. I like the name of that one. Better Red than Dead is a good name and I think my favorite label. Good job on these, very good for just learning GIMP.

    Finally some success!

how do you calculate efficiency? is it mainly for AG brewing?
