Thinking of starting. How much for Equip? I want craft beer quality

If you plan on being in the hobby for any length of time, prepare to spend some bucks. I started with a $100 kit that had the necessities along with a turkey fryer kit that included an 8 gal ss stockpot and an outdoor propane burner for about $150. I still use every piece of that equipment in...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Halfway through the boil of my first personal recipe, an amber ale using cascade hops. Not acting like I know what I'm doing, so we'll see how she turns out! Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

    Flat Bottled Beer Question

It was a blonde ale, og was 1.042, I never checked it before I bottled because it was in the primary for so long. It's been in the bottle for a little over three weeks, 24 oz bottles, at around 75, give or take 5 throughout the day. If I do go the re-yeast option, I already used S-05 so that...

    Flat Bottled Beer Question

There is a little visible yeast on the bottom of the bottles and there is a tiny bit of CO2 when you open the bottles

    Flat Bottled Beer Question

I finally got around to bottling a beer that I had in my primary way too long, about four months, and it's a pretty low grav beer to begin with. It's been in the bottle for three weeks now and it's pretty flat. Could the extended amount of time in the primary affect the bottle conditioning...

Story of my first brew day

I recommend getting some Starsan and ditch the bleach and boiled water. Boiling all that water seems a bit excessive and a waste of energy/gas. You can spray the Starsan on anything clean to sanitize and no need for rinsing.

    So who's brewing this weekend?

A little late, but I brewed a Chocolate Milk Stout, with my Bolts jersey. One of the reasons the Chargers smoked the Bangles, just saying.

    Secondary fermentation

I was making a Chocolate Milk Stout and the recipe calls to transfer to a secondary and add cacao nibs. Personally I have always dry hopped in my primary and I know this is a similar process, but I'm still somewhat new and have been trying different things, including secondary fermentation. I...

    Secondary fermentation

I have a question about secondary fermentation. All of my fermentation vessels are at least 6 gallons, I was worried about when transferring to the secondary about the headspace and oxygen contamination. Would adding maybe a little corn sugar before transferring help create a little CO2 to...

An interesting use for spent grains?

My dogs were eating the spent grains that I spread around my garden, I'm guessing it's not a problem.

    Punk Rock and Hardcore

Just saw Band Called Death on Netflix. I was amazed how beyond their time they were in terms of punk sound and style. It's too bad they never caught on.

    Old Crushed Grain

I just got better than expected efficiency with my 5-6 month old crushed grains. I live in a tropical climate, and the double bagged grains made a big difference IMO. Still very fresh smelling and tasting before I used them.

Thanks, it sounds like Brew Pal will be where I go for now, especially at a quarter of the price.

    Expired Yeast

Thanks for the suggestions, I went with the dry yeast because I've never done a starter and am not sure if I had what I needed for one. I'll keep the White Labs in the fridge and maybe use it for the next batch. Now I'm dealing with with my airlock overflowing due to very active fermentation.

    Expired Yeast

I have a vial of 4 month past expire White Labs yeast, and I was just wondering if I should skip it and use dry yeast or give it a go. Other than it not working, is there anything bad that can happen as a result? I was thinking use it, if it doesn't work after a couple days, use the dry yeast...

Just wondering if anyone has any reviews about any of these before I spend money on one. Mahalo!

    Old Crushed Grain

So life happened to me and I haven't been able to brew for the last few months. I have a couple all grain kits that I purchased and never used about 5 months ago. The grains were all crushed when I bought them, then they were double bagged and basically never touched. Will they still be good...
