The Homebrew Review: Barley Crusher Grain Mill

@Silentdrinker Agreed and agreed about BC. Terrible support and just an ok product. I'm a Monster Mill man myself.

Best method for "an acid beer" ?

I have no advice to offer other than the fact this made me laugh out loud.

    i hate notty

Yeah, also curious. I'm seeing my slurry of Notty (generations unknown) lose its flocculation abilities but other than that it's old faithful.

    5 or 10 gallon?

I'm in Korea. My off the shelf choices are 3kw and 5kw. Life I said, I get a healthy boil I just have to earn it :).

    5 or 10 gallon?

I have a 3kw immersion heat stick that works on 10 gallon batches. Tried using 5kw but blew my breakers. With a wrapped pot, it gets to boil .. eventually.

Simple all grain recopies for Lager and a Porter.

I'm a big fan of the recipes on Northern Brewer. Thus far their Simcoe pale, Sweet stout and Dry Stout have been outstanding.

    Getting into kegging

No real advantage or disadvantage other than the fact they are slightly different dimensions (ball lock taller and thinner, pin lock shorter and stockier). There seem to be more fittings that are ball lock centric though anything on MFL becomes universal assuming that your disconnects are MFL...

Questions and Advice for my Solera

His book is awesome. There's some info about solera style brewing in there. It's inspired me to give it a go that's for sure. I'm a couple of months into my solera project but will be using a keg as my choosen vessel with De Bom. I'll transfer 1 gallon and 1 gallon into empty kegs. Then...

    How to warm my fermenter

I use a 20 dollar adjustable aquarium heater submerge in a water bath in a cooler. It's rock solid.

Bad beer: Give it away, or dump it?

Like a few people mentioned previously, if you've got space, sour it. Otherwise, if you preface the heck out of the fact it's a mistake to friends, I see no harm in serving it to them. Free is free and we are all adult enough to make the call on what we put in our mouths.

Giving back: "Brew Like A Bachelor" - Free course coupons

Hey Gang, Longtime member, longtime brewer here. I'd like to offer a limited # of free course coupons to my Udemy class "Brew Like A Bachelor". This would be a great course for those looking to cheaply and resourcefully bridge the gap from extract brewing and get into a BIAB scenario. The goal...

Carbing a keg at room temp set it and forget it method

OP - I do that all the time. In fact, I choose to set my regulator at 20psi (assuming 65F) and this gives me about 2.0 volumes. The beer then runs through 10ft of 3/16 bev line into my single tap beer dispenser (cool run through a water bath). Comes out perfect.

    Greetings from Shanghai

Welcome. I live in Korea. Ditto on the horrid domestic product (though we are getting improved access to expensive imports). The beer bar is low so don't be afraid to get your feet wet with all-grain.

I wish they would bring back ______

Pre-smart phone era life. The frequency, speed and bluntness at which people bow out of real conversations is both alarming and rude.

    Does Chicken Feed=Brewable Grains?

Just as Roman said, malting it isn't all that difficult. Just a few days and probably about an actual hour of real work. I never went as far as using a clothes dryer (I didn't have one in Korea) but I malted barley for about 3 years. Unkilned I believe this is called 'wind malt'. Makes for...

    Does Chicken Feed=Brewable Grains?

It would need to be malted first.

Charging Keg with CO2 Using Bike Tire Inflater

Absolutely you can. This is what I do. I went this direction because I read numerous complaints of those plastic inflators exploding in people's hands. No bueno. The PDW inflator is quite robust. I feature it in my "Brew like a Bachelor" course. No complaints and it still inflates tires...
