    Why can't I choose a recipe?

t is very possible to make a good lager in less than a month utilizing the following link's advice. I have made several in-a-row lagers, to include a couple of lighter lagers, and a bock following these steps. my bock took just over 4 weeks to bottle. I could lager longer, but why? Good beer...

East coast ale up 'n down

I have an auto siphon that I use as a theif, I think it sucks as a siphon so I repurposed it! I am willing to bet you have beer now and are ready to move onto bottles/kegs.

East coast ale up 'n down

Did you check the gravity? I have had krausen stick around with other yeasts from time to time, and just racked from underneath. A gravity sample will tell if fermentation is done though. Many times I can't see through the krausen stain on my carboys either, so it looks like krausen but is...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Brewing a double Classic American Pilsner today. I was calling it malt liquor, but I said that in the LHBS and two of the three working there got real quiet. So, I decided I'd go with double CAP. Hopefully it's not too bad, otherwise I'm going to stay lit until I make the keg go away!

    MO Centennial Pale Ale: Feedback?

On the other hand, I love Centennial hops. I did a SMASH recently with not MO, but Munich instead. I didn't hop it as strongly either, only using two hops but after a round a month in the the keg (it's lasted a long time because I like it and wanted to drink it slow) it has a wonderfully...

    MO Centennial Pale Ale: Feedback?

Islandlizard, I am in NOVA and I have seen Bell's Two Hearted on the shelves here. I am almost positive of it, though I will double check today when I go out that way.

    Otter Creek

I have some Otter Creek Kind Rye, that I happen to happily notice is bottle conditioned, unfiltered, etc. I am curious if anyone has happened to harvest yeast from one of these bottles before, or not? If not, I am definitely going to give it a whirl. The beer is pretty good, with a smooth...

I don't know what to say....

I don't always have capacity to cold crash, but I am going to buy a stainless steel hop filter for the boil kettle to at least take care of that part of the mess. I was a bit reckless when racking. I was just using a new set up in my defense. but seriously, I will definitely be better...

I don't know what to say....

Thank you kindly for your advice. Prior to posting I had an idea it was the dip tube, I withdrew the dip tube, cleared it (there was debris) and reinserted the dip tube. I had an idea there might still be debre, so then I tested the whole system from faucet (perlic 650ss) to keg. I was...

I don't know what to say....

I tried something similar, but I'm not getting any movement at all. I have been lazy and not using hob sacks, so I suppose Iw ill go back to that after this episode too..

I don't know what to say....

I made an IPA a couple of weeks ago, and go to hook it up in my keezer and after a few days carbonating (I blast carbonate around 3 times serving PSI then clear the pressure in the keg and reconnect at serving pressure) and I get nothing coming out of the tap. I'm looking at the line, it's got...

    Saflager-23 for a Bock?

I haven't used S-23, so forgive my interjection, but I recently used 34/70 on a Bock that was harvested yeast from a light (color) lager. It turned out pretty well. On top of that I used a quick lager method for both beers, with no complaints. I read too many off-reviews of S-23 so I opted...

Noted, I'll be able to be there a little early, I don't mind waiting around or what not. My wife is in school until the early afternoon, and she won't be upset anyway.

Who is in the 3-5% ABV Club???

I have been trying to maintain sub 4.5% beers on my menu regularly. The problem is, they are easy to drink and I will drink them when my 'heavy' beers get to my head. Which means they end up going faster than all the others, as they make great week-day drinks, as well as weekend fillers and...
