HOWTO - Make a BrewPi Fermentation Controller For Cheap

Thanks Fuzz, what about multiple zone cooling? I'm looking to build my own fridgenstein side-by-side and I'd need multi-zones for that. Also, has anyone compared the accuracy of brewpi to the PID library (which can run multi-zone)?

HOWTO - Make a BrewPi Fermentation Controller For Cheap

I wonder, can this be run without the RPi? I don't happen to have one handy, but I have a couple of arduinos around :) Does the brewpi run the standard PID library? I've looked through the github, but the format of code isn't the usual arduino sketch, so I'm a little lost. I don't really...

Fridgenstein Side-By-Side Kegerator / Fermentation chamber

How is the vent controlled? As I understand it the compressor turns on and cools the freezer and the fridge just siphons off air from the freezer to get cold. If that's correct, how can you ensure that the fridge stays cool, while the freezer gets cold but neither gets as cold as they are...

    Completely Digital Brewery with Software..

Doing some thread necromancy. Schweit, do you have your code up on git somewhere? I'm very curious to see how others are handle the state transitions from strike->mash->brew. Also, what are you using to get your interface on the tablet? Is that a web interface to the Arduino? Are you using...

    My Weldless Build Using Strut

What's the prognosis on the longevity of powder coat? Those powder coated rigs look the business IMHO, and no zinc poisoning if it burns off :) (not that I'm that worried about zinc poisoning, since one should always burn off that galvanization in a well ventilated area).

    My Weldless Build Using Strut

Is that powder coated strut? Where did you order your strut from?

    Raspberry Pi Brew Controller

So I've been looking around for a solution. I'm concerned about the low voltages of most thermocouples, though we're not really looking for max precision just "is fire"/"is not fire", so that may be okay. I've ordered a k type thermocouple to play with. I'd get one of those maxim one-wire...

Tob77, qq - how are you mounting the ds18b20? is that a specialty fitting or ...?

    Raspberry Pi Brew Controller

Hey guys, any thoughts on flame rods? Would the "flame diode" thing work for arduino/Rpi? if not, the thermocouple/1 wire method seems pretty srtaightforward. http://www.ebay.com/itm/PFS401-Universal-Furnace-Electode-Flame-Sensor-replaces-White-Rodgers-760-401-/380817076039

    (yet another) DIY peristaltic pump!

Probably :) It's a $2 cake pan, if the axles wear through I can get another. I suspect that they won't wear all the way through, though. A second washer might help, but then I worry about 'wobbling' of the pump head, where the casters aren't aligned with the tube any longer.

    (yet another) DIY peristaltic pump!

That's the next step - finding a decent motor. I'm thinking ac or dc gearmotor, but I'm not sure which. AC = more plentiful, cheaper, and easier to control no speed control DC = speed control, more torque More expensive, separate power supply necessary

    (yet another) DIY peristaltic pump!

Alright gang, the instructable is up, along with some new youtube videos http://www.instructables.com/id/Inexpensive-easy-to-build-peristaltic-pump/ http://youtu.be/bKuIYLGYldc http://youtu.be/xUBGjHn0PTE Share and enjoy, JR

    (yet another) DIY peristaltic pump!

I will do so later on today. I have to put together that instructable, which requires some pictures. I didn't take any during the build process, unfortunately. On a side note, no youtube at work?! That's cruel and unusual punishment! How will you learn anything new without youtube to teach...

Hey Jim , The video is working for my computer and phone, so I'm not sure what you mean. Maybe you can take a screenshot?

    Raspberry Pi Brew Controller

Yes, it's in the flame, it's a little copper pencil shaped thingie (see picture) In the case of the turkey fryer, it's there to energize a small coil that allows the gas safety valve to stay open. So, no flame the coil de-energizes, allowing the valve to close, that's why you have to hold...

    Raspberry Pi Brew Controller

You could use a thermopile - which is a device that generates electric current when exposed to heat. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005DUUKY8/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20 In fact, my brinkmann turkey burner came with one as part of the "safety" equipment. Many pilot light systems for gas...

    Raspberry Pi Brew Controller

Hence the need for automation :) I'm in much the same boat, myself, but now that the baby is in full-on toddlerhood, I'm regaining some semblance of personhood Good luck with the new one on the way! Your project really is looking great, and I'm hoping your inspiration will push me to take...

    Raspberry Pi Brew Controller

Nice work, tob77, that is really impressive. I wonder if you could post some more info on your sparker setup and how you are using it - manually, through code, etc. I'd also really like to see the inside of your control box. Finally, I don't see a pump on your recirculation arm, so I'm curious...
