BruControl: Brewery control & automation software

Why do you need to have an accurate volume reading during the boil?

2 Vessel BruControl RIMS 15 Gallon Brewery Build

No brucontrol panel yet, but I expect to start making progress on that very soon. However, I am using my new kettles, unitank and glycol chiller for the first time today. I'm a few minutes away from mashing in! Small water test run yesterday was good. Steam slayer worked really well, but I...

Attenuation and Restarting a Stuck Fermentation

Where did you expect it to finish? What was the O.G.? A porter with a F.G. of 1.020 should be fine. I mean it depends somewhat on the answers to the above, but nothing about 1.020 means it's ruined.

Attenuation and Restarting a Stuck Fermentation

It might not make much of a krausen because 1/4 of a liter is an absolute tiny starter. Why not make some more wort and get at least a 2L starter going?

BruControl: Brewery control & automation software

Sorry, I think I was just misreading what you wrote.

BruControl: Brewery control & automation software

I'm confused by something you said. You have contactors being controlled by relays (SSRs?)? Or do you mean you're controlling your 40A SSRs via the relay board? Which would still be confusing to me.

Attenuation and Restarting a Stuck Fermentation

I cannot answer your specific question. I also can't say that I've heard too many success stories regarding pitching from a starter at high krausen to get a "stuck" (some might say "finished") fermentation going again. It's just such a hard environment for those new yeast. And keep in mind...

    Brewing pump

Would a diaphragm type pump work, like the one blichmann uses for their quickcarb system?

    English bitter help

Yeah last one I did was MO and EKG. It's hard to beat that.

    English bitter help

Seems like a lot or brown malt. I don't really think of a bitter as being a "dark" beer at all, but that's not to say it will not taste really good. I'd think of it more as a brown ale or scottish ale.

Brew kettle with lowest TC for heating element?

Mine were Blichmann, American made 304 SS. The HF step bit worked just fine.

Brew kettle with lowest TC for heating element?

I really like the @Bobby_M TC element that has a male 30A connector on it. I don't feel like it gets any better than that in so many ways. https://www.brewhardware.com/product_p/element5500_ripple_tc.htm I mean it's pretty much perfect and saves you money overall.

    My build thread

Yes, some pics would be very welcome. Congrats man! I hope to be brewing on my brucontrol rig very soon. A few delays, my wife had a pretty major surgery today, but that went really well and I'll be doing some work on my POS car tomorrow. Then it's focus on getting my brewery done!

"Homebrew twang" despite controlled fermentation and yeast starter

this is even assuming that there is any "twang." I think everyone automatically assumes people are tasting actual problems in their beer when there may very well not be any. Or at least, not close to the extent they portray them as.

Brew kettle with lowest TC for heating element?

Yep, I used a Harbor Freight step bit on my last build. No issues at all. I still have the bit and could use it more if needed.

    English bitter help

First response is really good. Yeah, 1lb chocolate in that recipe is way too much. I make a strong bitter about 60% of the time I make beer. I have taken first in my local beer comp (400-600 entries each year) in the English Bitter category 6 out of the last 7 years, with two of those years my...

Brew kettle with lowest TC for heating element?

Right, good clarification. I just feel like the OP is not fully considering the size of a TC port with the flange and clamp attached.

Brew kettle with lowest TC for heating element?

I just measured the OD of a 2" TC with the clamp on. So let's just clear a few things up. A 2" TC port has a 2" ID, as in the hole is 2" big. Then there is the flange which brings it to 2.5" OD But you have to attach things with a clamp and the narrowest part of the clamp was 3" wide and the...

Brew kettle with lowest TC for heating element?

The clamp is about 1/2" bigger around than the flange.
