Boil kettle condenser - no overhead ventilation needed

Even though I really like not having to open my garage, I might do it just to get a little airflow to carry the smell away. Oh, I probably should have also mentioned that I was taking the buckets with the condensed liquid inside to dump in my kitchen sink. LOL, that probably also had something...

Boil kettle condenser - no overhead ventilation needed

I used the steam condenser for a second time today. Love it! But I did want to mention something. Someone a few dozen pages ago said something about the smell being even stronger and less pleasant after going to the steam condenser. Didn't really seem right. What I did notice today, especially...

Boil kettle condenser - no overhead ventilation needed

I think they specify that you're gonna need to be able to control your power level because with the lid open it will just boil harder. With the lid on it will boil over unless you can reduce the power.

Foam ontop of fermenter even when fermentation is complete

So this happens with various yeast strains? Is one of the strains he uses 1469 West Yorkshire Ale yeast? It's one I'm familiar with that acts like that sometimes.

    Wyeast 1469 - Temperature

I know this is an old thread, and this advice isn't likely to be useful to the OP, but I use 1469 a lot and have for many years. I typically ferment starting at 63F with a big starter and pure O2 oxygenation. At 4 days I raise the temp to 66F, then another degree for the next couple days up to...

That would be against everything I believe in.

    Force bottling/exposure to oxygen

There was some O2 exposure (there is always some when bottling from a bucket) but the impact might not be too severe. Hard to say. Really, since you're a new brewer, just complete the conditioning process and enjoy the beer. It's an IPA so I doubt it was intended for long-term storage anyway...

    Aqward question????

I've often said that if I hadn't gone to kegging early I would have given up brewing. I still remember having finished beer and waiting a couple week to bottle it because I didn't want to deal with the hassle. That doesn't happen with kegging.

    SLY 2362 or EZBoil?

    SLY 2362 or EZBoil?

Maybe the EZ Boil uses PEDs, thus the unfair advantage.

    Very high fermentation temperature

Fusels taste like rubbing alcohol. If they are there they are also likely to give you a headache if you decide to drink it.

    Unboxing the Penguin Chiller

I'm about a week into fermentation. I'm using 1728 Scottish Ale yeast and I like to use that yeast on the cold side. I've been at 55F and have not deviated more than 1/2 a degree. I am concerned because the Penguin reservoir seems to be fluctuating more than I'd like. I've seen it dip down to...

Boil kettle condenser - no overhead ventilation needed

Yeah, it doesn't need to be sealed. The weight of the lid already makes the steam condenser an easier escape route for the steam, and when it gets there it gets condensed and starts pulling. Even if air is coming IN around the lid it doesn't matter. The steam condenser is the best way out of the...

I am an idiot, please help

I made a Strong Ale earlier this year. I packaged a bunch of it for aging but when I start drinking the bottles I'm calling it an Old Ale. Pretty similar in a lot of ways except that an Old Ale has a distinct aged characteristic.

    Unboxing the Penguin Chiller

I've got mine running now, since the weekend, so about 4 days in. Happy with the purchase so far.

Boil kettle condenser - no overhead ventilation needed

I brewed with my steam slayer over the weekend. Worked very well! In fact, it worked too well in that I could maintain a vigorous boil at 50% power (PID in manual mode) and I was a bit slow to go that low. But I didn't even have a real boil-over, the steam slayer sucked everything out. Bottom...
