    Need names of terrible beers

Thanks for the tips everyone! There are some definite candidates on this list. I think I'll stay away from the mixes (clamato, chelada, etc) for purity's sake, but I still think I can find a winner/loser. I'll report back with the winner after the meeting

    Need names of terrible beers

Hey Everyone, My homebrew club is having a Race to the Bottom contest at our next meeting, with a prize being given to the club member who can bring in the worst tasting commercial beer. We'll vote on our selections using a double blind taste test. Rather than ruin my day by trying a bunch...

    Juniper Hops??

Just be careful if you're going to use the berries. If you add too much, the batch will just taste like Pine Sol. I made that mistake the first time I used juniper anyways :)

Added 2.5 oz, priming sugar to 2 gallons of Ale

Assuming your bottles don't blow, you can still make the beer drinkable. Once it's ready just pour the beer down the middle of your glass, don't pour down the edge. This will cause the beer to foam up, and you'll get a huge foamy head. Let it settle back down, and continue pouring. You'll...

Specialty Grains - What to do when it hits a boil?

I agree with some of the above statements that it's best to keep your batches even if you know you made a mistake. Unless I know that I made a mistake that will make the brew completely undrinkable, I keep going and just take notes on what happened. If you boiled your grains when you didn't...

    First time making a Kriek

Thanks for the info. I'm mostly doing partial-mash, but on new styles or ingredients I usually go to extract just to remove some variables. These cherries are a bit tart, but I've used them in a dark stout before with reasonable success. The stout flavor profile is a lot bigger though, and I...

    First time making a Kriek

So I've got a cherry tree with an overabundance of fruit. I'd love to try a Kriek with them, but I've never done anything like that before. Does anybody have some experience with Krieks who could point me to a decent recipe, or even a kit would work. How about using whole fruit instead of...

Brew Masters on Discovery w/ Sam Calagione

There was a film crew at the NHC earlier this month. Does anybody know if those guys are involved in this show?

Do you care about the calories in your craft beer?

This reminds me of a Guinness ad campaign a while back. Low calorie beers were getting more and more in vogue, so Guinness did the research and found out that their beers only had like 150 calories each, which isn't too bad. They had this campaign saying that "Guinness only has 150 calories...

    First Brew!

It depends. How strong of a concentration did you use? About 1/10 oz or so per gallon is fine to air dry. If you used too much more than that, you should probably rinse.

What to do after failed carbonation?

I bottled a Honey Brown Ale two weeks ago and just opened one up for the first time. Though the taste is fantastic, the beer is almost completely flat. When I added my priming sugar at bottling I used about 4 oz. for 5 gallons. The package recommends 5 oz. but that has often overcarbonated my...

    Hello from Minnesota

I'd try and get to the Town Hall Brewery. My favorite brewpub in town. It's near campus so you might have to deal with the college kids, but the beer's worth it. Their Masala Mama IPA is fantastic, and they have two seasonal Wee Heavies on tap right now that are very worth it. That's in...

    Hello from Minnesota

Hey Everyone, I'm a Home Brewer from the Twin Cities, Minnesota area. I've done a handful of extract batches, some better than others, and am currently working on my set-up to start some AG brewing. I've certaintly been getting better, but also have some nagging problems that I hope this...
