    Bottling Conundrum

I had planned on bottling my hefeweizen today and now I'm not too sure it's a good idea. So I thought I'd poll the audience. It's been in the primary for 7 days so far. I checked the gravity on Thursday morning and it was at 1.014. Today it is at 1.012, borderline 1.013. Looking at...

    Tim's Irish Stout

I'm brewing this one on Sunday. I had a few substitutions while at the LHBS and I'm wondering if there will be detrimental ramifications. Instead of 4 pounds DME, I got 5 pounds LME. The LHBS said this was the correct conversion. Were they correct? And then for the half pound black malt, I got...

    No More Home Brew

I hope you get better. And stronger. For what its worth, I've been sober for 13 months and started home brewing in October. I like the brewing process and the fact that people think it's amazing someone can brew beer. I give all my home brew away to family and friends. I just find it difficult...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

I bottled my Chimay Grand Reserve today. Going to brew a hefeweizen tomorrow.

    My First Explosioin. Thoughts?

Now, before I comment, I realize the OP has probably drank this brew along time ago and I hope it was good :D Everyone did a great job about leaving the beer alone. Give yerselves a hand!:tank: :mug: :ban: :rockin: But I'm curious about the OPs first and last queries. Was it the...

Novice - need advice on kits, etc.

I'm only going to address question 2. I started brewing a little over a month ago and have 2 batches bottled and a third in the 7.5 fermenter bucket. I've thought about getting a second fermenter (Better Bottle carboy) just to see the fermentation process but have decided it's not worth the pain...

Anything Odd About These Gravity Readings???

I'm kind of confused also as to why you took the first 5 readings with a refractor and then decided to mix it up and take the Final Gravity reading with a hydrometer. I think your discrepancy lies there.

high OG screw-up/can it be saved?

Sorry to restart a dying thread but I found this one by searching for an answer to my question :-) I recently brewed a Chimay Grand Reserve clone w/ a high gravity like the OP (Sunday 11/21). Mine's at 1.093. Well I pitched 1 vial of White Labs Trappist Ale yeast and afterwards read up on high...

    Beers at the wedding

This probably won't make any difference but when I started brewing my father told me my grandfather home brewed too. And when my aunt was married (in the 60s) my grandfather supplied the beer. I'm sure laws have changed since then but if it's open bar and a limited selection I doubt you would...

    Writing a Thesis/Support Paper

I, too, would recommend going after the 3 tier system and how it is a major obstacle for a small craft brewery to get product to market. I second the recommendation of watching Beer Wars. It might give you a better idea/direction on how BMC makes it difficult for a craft brewer to succeed. Which...

Does this gross you (the men) out?

Ya know, when I saw this thread title I could only think of one thing that would gross a man out. And 'sho nuff, I was right! That being said, I'm not a big fan of swimming during red tide. However, I did get my red wings while eating clams when the tide came in. I was both visually and...

    New Brewer in San Antonio

Hello everyone! I've been perusing the site for a little over a month now looking for answers. So far I've bottled my first brew (red ale) and have my 2nd one in the fermenter (porter). As I started this adventure I discovered both of my grandfathers brewed their own beer! I guess it's in my...
