    SWMBO wants to brew.

So the results are in. SWMBO brews better beer than I. Granted she used my technique and I guided her the entire time. She has the best home brew to date out of us. Haha. I am not even mad though. Her red ale is delicious and I get my fair share of it! :mug:

    Do you filter your beer?

I strain post boil. It does three things: makes my beer super clear, I get more beer due to less trub, and it does an amazing job of aerating the wort. All great things. : D

    Drinking from the bottle

    I feel betrayed.

    Let's talk upgrades!

+1 fermentation control. Ive started doing rudimentary control using ice and just saw a HUGE difference in the quality.

    Filtering your beer?

My suggestion here: Filter before you add your yeast prior to fermentation. I have started running my wort through a strainer and it greatly reduces trub. Additionally, use irish moss. It will help clear your beer and doesn't modify flavor. This should help get a nice yeast layer at the bottom...

How quickly does Hop Bitterness fade?

Yeah, I guess I should have specified. I am talking more about the hop flavor. So I should get going on it soon then. Maybe another week or two and then really have at them.:mug:

How quickly does Hop Bitterness fade?

Brewed an IPA and after 1 week of conditioning its great. However, I don't want to drink it if it will get better. At the same time, It's not overly hoppy, if it lost any of the hop flavor, I don't think it would be nearly as good. How quickly does the hop flavor begin to fade?

It is the greatest beer in ze whole world

Yeah. I know hop bitterness dwindles as time passes. About how much time does it take for bitterness to start dissipating?

It is the greatest beer in ze whole world

Heeeeelllllllllll yeahh!! Wait. Actually no. I cant brew again for about a month due to moving. So these need to last but yeah. I am super stoked. The red ale was actually swmbo's first brew. I told her how to do it but she did it all. : D BUT YEAH. I'm hooked. This hobbie is here to stay.

It is the greatest beer in ze whole world

Alright so maybe not the greatest but it's the best beer(s) I have had. These were my 3rd and fourth batches to date. A red ale and ipa. They are fantastic!! What's weird though is they have only been conditioning for 1 week. Question: should I just have at them then or still wait to put them...

    More beer than expected?!

    About an inch.

    Want to start another batch

You can take a bucket or tub or something along those lines, fill it with water, insert your carboy and switch out bottles of ice daily to maintain a low temperature. But yeah, after primary fermentation occurs, temp control becomes less* of an issue.

    More beer than expected?!

Yeah for sure. hmmm. thanks. I can think of a few things that may have increased my out put. None of them would have an impact on taste luckily. : ) I am sure you can imagine my shock when I had x amount of beer still in my bucket and I was already at 50 beers... haha. I didn't even have enough...

    Forgot priming sugar

I would get new caps man. Don't want a bunch of faulty seals. A bag o caps isn't too bad. Few bucks maybe.

Got room to create a swamp cooler?

    More beer than expected?!

Actually, now that you mention it, I ran the wort through a strainer before topping off to clear out trub and aerate the wort. Could that be the culprit here?

    More beer than expected?!

Red ale. Racked and bottled a few days ago. What was weird is I got 55 beers out of a 5 gallon batch. I didn't even get all of it. I did taste it and it tasted great. Didn't seem watered down. Additionally, I know I topped it off to the 5 gallon mark before fermentation because I am anal about...

brewing with tea, how to sanitize?

hmmm.. I might be off on this. What if you soaked the tea in a small amount of vodka long enough to sanitize it, then just dumped it all in. Unless I am mistaken, it would sanitize and even increase your ABV a bit. I am not very familiar with tea though.

can i take an fg after carbing

Yarr. What he said. Give the hydrometer a spin too when you take it. Will help to release any c02 that may suspend it higher.
