Site is back up now. I am not familiar with the 3 gallon cornys. Do they use the standard ball lock quick disconnects?

    Bugs in my airlock

Is it OK to leave the dead bugs floating around in the vodka or should I dump and refill?

    Keg to Keg transfer?

So you hit the receiving keg with CO2 and then pulled the relief valve b4 pushing the beer in? If you put the dispensing keg above the receiving keg would you have to leave the CO2 on? I was wondering if it would keep flowing after you got it started?

    Keg to Keg transfer?

I have a strong scottsman in a corny keg for secondary. When I am reading to transfer and carb, can I do a keg to keg transfer without taking the lid off either keg? I was thinking I could push from the secondary corny to the destination corny by hooking up the two liquid outs and pushing in...

    Bugs in my airlock

Thanks for the link. The vodka level is still good. I am just trying to figure out how they got in there. The holes are way too small.

    Bugs in my airlock

I made some Apfelwein on 5/13/09 and it is in a 5 gallon carboy with a one piece airlock. Airlock is still bubbling away. I check it every couple of days and it has been looking just fine. I looked at it this morning and there are 8 bugs floating around in the vodka. EIGHT. The holes in...

    Man, I love Apfelwein

If you make Apfelwein and don't add the 2 lbs of sugar what effect will it have on taste? Obviously the ABV will be lower. Will there be any other difference?

Who here is happy with glass carboys?

I have two glass carboys, a 5 gallon and a 6 gallon and have been using them since 2001. I primary in a bucket and secondary in the glass (except for the Apfelwein which I just do in the glass). Since I have never used a BB, I guess I don't know what I am missing. I have come really close to...

Mistakes I made when kegging the first time

Thanks and thanks. I hit the beer with 35 PSI for a minute and then pulled the relief valve until it was just barely whistling. There have been a number of working fridges on Craig's List for under $50 locally. I have just been slow moving on them since I didn't have anything in the keg...

Mistakes I made when kegging the first time

Today has been a bit of a challenge... I made Ed Wort's Apfelwein on 3-23 and was ready to keg it today. I also made a Strong Scottsman 2 weeks ago and was ready to transfer it from the primary. I decided to put it in a keg for the secondary (for the 1st time) instead of a carboy. As a...

Bought a Wyeast propagator instead of an activator.

I ran into the same issue last week. I wound up pitching the propagator (my pouch was completely swollen). My airlock was popping within 24 hours and is still going strong. Either way, it will turn out fine. While it may not be optimal, it is really hard to screw up a batch as long as you...

    Yeast Starter

Results so far... I wound up being pressed for time and just pitched the propagator at 65 degrees. It took just over 24 hours to come to life but when it did, it has been popping the airlock very well. I realize it may take longer for my batch to ferment but it is good to know you don't...
