    115th Hopbursted IIPA

Get some tubing and run from fermentor to a bottle of sanitized water (I've used a wine bottle filled with starsan and water) Definitely install the blow-off tube, you have to let out the large amount of Co2 pressure created from such a strong beer. Did you aerate really well? Make sure you...

Preparing for my First Brew Day

That Tripel will not be any "harder" to make, trouble as stated is the time it takes to ferment and then condition in secondary. I would recommend Edworts Haus Pale Ale. I think he has an extract conversion. Cheap. Quick. Delicious.

    First IPA recipe comments

Agreed Nugget as a flavoring addition gets kind of medicinal. At little Columbus might do you well.

    Critique My First Recipe

First off, great job making a beer you like. I just read your brew day post and wanted to mention that you don't want to smash/press or otherwise squeeze the grain as you can release tannin (harsh) off-flavors. Your range for your mash between 150 and 168 is quite large too. You have the two...

    Fixing a DIPA grain bill

Sorry for the lack of beersmith or an equivalent. I'm not at my regular computer. The run down: At the LHBS my grain bill was crushed and mixed, great! However looking at the invoice sticker he mistook 1/2 for 2lbs of Biscuit malt. So right now I'm looking at 13#-American 2-row 3#-Munich...

    Chai in beer

Add chai spices (not chai "tea") after fermentation completes Sanitize your spices and rack when flavor is achieved. The tea is useless and just creates off flavors IMO. Tried it both ways, spice is the way to go.

    What's wrong with my palate???

    Ideas for Randall Additions??

I saw a tweet by DFH with an attached picture. They had tootsie rolls and some nugget hops. The other had a mix of aromatic berries and herbs. Try as many combinations as possible!

    Using tea bags for flavor?

Haven't had good luck with tea bags in the secondary, infected a small batch almost immediately. + 1 to sticking with purée. If you are dead set on tea, perhaps at the end of the boil, or steeped separately and added to secondary.

    SMaSH help

As far as hopstoopid look at simcoe, cascade, chinook, nugget, (dry hop: simcoe, Columbus, ,chinook) For Dankness try a late hop only. Twenty minutes an under, let you flame out addition steep for 5 to 10 before chilling, then dry hop. Simcoe will have that heady aroma

    Porter spill of 2011

Confusion is that 'wort' is not beer. Beer is fermented, wort is unfermented liquid.

    nyc beer bars

Yes I was aware of the correlation. Personally I would rather support Kelly's own venture, not a NYC chain restaurant. I don't believe this constitutes snobbery, more investment in local small business. Maybe. brew·pub/ˈbro͞oˌpəb/ Noun: An establishment selling beer brewed...

Worst Commercial Beer You've Ever Had?

Butternuts snapper head, paid 8 or 9 bucks for a sixer. Drank half the can poured and poured it out. Sure there are worse beers, but price per oz of awful, this takes the cake.
