    Bung and Blow

I was given a pair of carboys & rubber stoppers I thought looked discolored. I bought a (silicone?) 6.5 gal carboy cap, not believing it was different from the 5-gal carboy...both have the same size ID...but yes, the OD of the 6.5 gal is larger and blue rubber cap fits it. Has two different size...

Yeast for Baltic Porter with High ABV?

Oh, the only cold storage option for my bottles is the garage. It was mid-30's F a week or two ago, but outside temp this week has been 18-21 F. I'm guessing longer conditioning at 64 F might be my only practical option....

Yeast for Baltic Porter with High ABV?

I'm in this boat. An altered AIH Zywiec (Polish, Baltic) Porter Extract Clone kit (target 9.5-10.8%) with an unintended 5.4% increase in LME weight plus a 1% alcohol boost bag of corn sugar ended up at 12.34%. I used two 11.5g packets of S-189 and one can of Northern Brewer Fast Pitch after...

    Warm Fermented Lager Thread

Yes, great article. I assumed I had read it last week. But it was new for me. Thanks

    Warm Fermented Lager Thread

4 zl/quart. Paid that much (US$1.35) for 0.5 L about 7 years ago visiting someone in Krakow...not bad inflation...but didn't find Zywiec Porter within driving distance in the US until this year. My AIH clone kit is based on the Zywiec recipe (actually, probably taste), but after turbocharging...

    What are you drinking now?

I haven't found the thread "What are you cleaning now?"...that's where I'm headed next.

Good luck to your wife's aunt.

    That's a lotta lap dog!

    What are you drinking now?

Last night. 100 ml snifter sample of my first 5-gal after confirming FG was same as 2 days ago. Bottling today (sugar, no CO2). AIH extract Zywiec Porter Clone kit with some changes & additions for various reasons. Now it's (moreso) an Imperial Baltic Porter. Used lager yeast. Opaque to phone...

    Warm Fermented Lager Thread

Thanks. I brewed a kit which had yeast suggestions, and the kit recipe paper copy vs. web was different...so I saw options. I chose one of the recommended lager yeasts that liked my basement year-round temperature(63-66 F; floor and air are closer together in winter). I always struggle with...

    Warm Fermented Lager Thread

Is a Baltic Porter with lager yeast at 63-66 F 'techically' a lager, or does no one call a Porter a lager?

    First 5-gal, aged LME, duh...

Hydrometer, not hygrometer. Not swingin' a wet sock around the room to measure r.h.

    First 5-gal, aged LME, duh...

My first 5 gallon extract (with bag-o-grains) kit...AIH Zywiec Porter (Baltic) clone. Their numbers: O.G. 1.112 F.G. 1.028 ABV 10.8% Some mishaps & tweaks. Replaced moldy LME (my fault- 12-18 months procrastination). Munich LME replacement was metric 2x3.3# vs original 6# bulk (10% more)...

Pondering moving brewing operations outdoors - suggestions?

First 5-gal, first outdoor. Bayou Classic burner/boiler kit that popped up on sale while browsing. Borrowed propane tank from gas grill. Varnish-stained countertop from baseboard molding project. Was on top of (dormant) fire pit but realized wort chiller hose length necessitated relocation...

    First 5-gal, aged LME, duh...

I think I will take the advice to skip 2ndary, and skip coffee & cacao nibs. I am quarantined this week so leaving the beer alone suits me fine. The one thing taste-related that has gone nuts for me this week is espresso tastes 10x worse than before. I drink it for medicinal value alone, not...

    First 5-gal, aged LME, duh...

Sometimes searching finds all the wrong things...today I found many other people asking same things...and more answers to things I didn't ask yet (& don't need to). Early image: looked the same before pitching & after to my naive eyes.

    First 5-gal, aged LME, duh...

Is there a difference between the meringue-like wort foam from initially aerating, and Kraeusen? After several days, that foam did get consumed, but I don't really see any grungy-looking stuff I expected. Sunday Eve will be two weeks in primary. Yesterday I could hear one thump about every...
