    New To AG

That's a very good point Slym. Besides costs are there any advantages to BIAB? Are there advantages to non-BIAB.

    Thanks everyone.

    New To AG

I've already have a burner that will handle full boils. SWMBO kicked me out of the kitchen after the first brew. Not so much the mess but the stove didn't really have the BTUs do brew. Definitely need a new kettle. I do have thermometers, hydrometer, wort chiller, 5 gallon glass carboy...

    New To AG

I've been brewing extract beers for the last couple of years and now I want to up my game. SWMBO completely supports my brewing and I think that AG equipment will be my Christmas present this year. That being said, I'd like to know a couple of things. 1) What equipment is "required" to make 5...

    Boring fermentation

    Just yeast rafts.

    Boring fermentation

so I opened the primary bucket and looked like this. I'm assuming it's a top fermenting yeast but haven't looked it up yet. Is this normal or did it get infected? I did not see a yeast cake in the bottom of the primary and the beer tasted fine.

How many gallons of homebrew in 2014?

    +5 Peach Wheat 22,027

    Boring fermentation

LOL. That could be except she's the one who wanted the peach wheat. It'd be self sabotage.

    Boring fermentation

Storage could have been an issue. I had to go away for work right after I had bought the yeast and delayed me brewing for two weeks. I kept it in the fridge which is set for 36 degrees. When I went to activate the pack it felt as if the activator had already been broken. The pack did swell...

    Boring fermentation

It's fermenting a little high but within the range. It's at 72 but the packet recommended between 68-75. I've never used a starter before, honestly a little intimidated by it. What's the best/easiest way to make one?

    Possible infection?

I've never had an infection issue and wash everything thoroughly before sanitizing. Not sure if it's a good sign or not but the starsan did clear up shortly after putting it in the air lock. I looked up how hard our water is online and it said it was 116-178ppm depending on when and where sample...

    Possible infection?

I also just moved and finished my first brew in the new house. My StarSan was definitely cloudy when I put it into the air lock. I didn't notice it cloudy when I mixed I sanitized everything though. My fermentation is bubbling but it hasn't really taken off like I was expecting. Am I doomed to...

    Boring fermentation

I had never used a started for the Wyeast packets. Reading the instructions they don't say to use a starter. Basically activate it, let it sit for 3 hours or more and pitch it. I'm making a peach wheat so a banana flavor may not be completely undesirable in this case and may be masked because...

    Boring fermentation

I guess I'm not worried if it's fermenting or not, but if I under pitched it should I allow more time in the primary before racking into the secondary. I know that my FG readings will tell me it's done, but I don't want to start taking those too early and contaminate the beer. Also if the...

    Boring fermentation

For my batch that I brewed this past weekend, I used Wyeast 3068 Weihenstephan Wiezen Smack Pack. I had bought the yeast 3 weeks prior and had to go out of town for work. I had put the pack in the refrigerator, but I think the pack may have been hit by my wife and "activated". The pack was...

    Wort Chiller Help

My wife wants to buy me a wort chiller for my birthday. I have no clue about wort chillers. If I go to my local homebrew store they sell them for about $120. I've looked at them on various websites; ebay, northern brewer, amazon, etc. Some are in the low $40 while others that appear...

    First Pumpkin Ale

I know sugar will start fermentation again and the taste is good in regards to the spices. It's just a little to bitter for her. Which is why I was thinking Splenda or maybe lactose. Do you think adding the spices will balance the bitterness instead of an unfermentable sugar?

    First Pumpkin Ale

I just racked my first pumpkin ale into the secondary and swmbo wants a sweeter beer that taste like pumpkin pie. While I like the taste, she wants it a little sweeter. I was planning on adding some Splenda when I bottle but home much should I add?

Need some help from MI brewers - Oberon Recipe

Thanks I really appreciate it. I think I'm going to have to use the yeast listed. I don't have any access to any of bell's beers.

Need some help from MI brewers - Oberon Recipe

So I moved down to Texas from Michigan and I'm craving some Bells Oberon. Does anyone have a home brew recipe that is as good or better?
