    Cloning Yuengling's Hershey Porter

I'm going to take a try at cloning this, my wife really seems to like it. I haven't tried it yet (I guess that would be a good place to start). I was able to find a few clone recipes of Yuengling's basic porter (I have had that, but not for a long time, I'll have to try and find some). I'm...

Williamsburg, VA - anything beer-related worth checking out?

Good to know, this is a family vacation with two little ones so it will either be me running in to grab a growler, or someplace we can sit down to eat.

Williamsburg, VA - anything beer-related worth checking out?

I'll be traveling to Williamsburg the first week of Dec. Are there any breweries in the area worth looking into?

Fresh Hop Zappa Using First Snow (This Should Have a Great Name)

That's called local terroir. Or something.

Fresh Hop Zappa Using First Snow (This Should Have a Great Name)

You want to melt down snow for your brewing liquor? Average conversion snow:water is about 10:1, but it gets higher the colder the air is. So if you want 13gal of brewing liquor you'll need to collect roughly 130gal of snow at minimum.

    Connecticut Industrial touch-screen computer

I have a NOS Allen-Bradley VersaView 1700P industrial computer with an integrated touch screen. I originally picked this up to use as a brewery computer with the intention of going automated electric. I've decided that's not happening (lack of time, and skills to implement) so time to clear...

    What do you drive?

Yeah I was driving in the pouring rain one night when the heater core blew. I was only a few miles from home so I turned around and started trying to limp it back with steam blasting out of the vents and coolant spilling all over my feet. Got about halfway back and the cable shift linkage...

    What do you drive?

I'm partial to the white one... ;) Unfortunately that was a college ride, and at the time I couldn't afford to keep up with it as a daily driver so it got sold. Still miss it. Also a '90. Current DD is a Toyota Prius V. It's an appliance. But, it gets good mileage and allows me to fit...

    Help with electric pump/VSD wiring

This isn't strictly related to electric brewing but figured it's probably the best place to get a good answer. I was able to source some NOS industrial pumping equipment that I'm hoping to convert for brewing use. The problem is it's all 480V 3ph equipment (I obviously don't have this in my...

No empty German Beer bottles for you!

I had a similar situation at a beer bar in Boston, but with a less-prickish waiter. I asked if I could keep the empty bottle, he patiently explained that they weren't allowed to do that sort of thing and it would need to be disposed of on-site. Oh, bummer, thats dumb. Yep, sure is, he says...

    Gruit hopped with juniper berries?

Definitely look more into traditional gruits. There are a lot of alternative options for bittering using herbs other than hops. As far as juniper specifically, I've found it can vary a LOT depending on the potency of the berries. For a Christmas ale, I did a recipe that used 4oz in a 5gal...

Bar top epoxy recommendation for covering caps and coasters

I've never used MAS for a bar top, but I did use their product to seal a plywood fishtank I built, and the stuff is a great product, and their customer service is top notch. I had some questions prior to using it and they were super responsive and helpful. Great company, great product (for...

12 Beers of Christmas 2018 Edition

So this was my third year doing this swap, and I still have some beers from 2016 left. I did a vertical tasting of sorts with the Fruitcake Old Ale to compare the products of several different brewers using the same (ish) basic recipe. Below are the 2016, 2017 and 2018 fruitcake old ales...
