    Hop Schedule for DIPA

Finallizing a IIPA recipe. I like the steeping hops idea and want to try it. Hows this recipe look? Whats a typical fermentation schedule for a IIPA. I was thinking 3 in primary. Cold crash or use gelatin. Transfer and dry hop for 5 days before bottling. Thoughts? 5.25 gal batch OG = 1.087 FG =...

How to make a yeast starter - Pictorial (updated)

Hi all. I attempted my first starter yesterday. Using Mr Malty's calculator I needed 2 vials of liquid yeast and a 1.51L starter. I used 151g of DME and boiled that into 1.6L of water. Due to evaporation the final volume ended up being 1.25L. Is this ok or should I have added more water to get...

    Apollo for dry hops?

Here is my recipe I have now for a IIPA. I was unsure about using the apollo hops for dry hopping and replacing them with citra? Thoughts on this. Original Gravity: 1.085 (1.075 - 1.090) Terminal Gravity: 1.021 (1.010 - 1.020) Color: 11.18 (8.0 - 15.0) Alcohol: 8.43% (7.5% - 10.0%) Bitterness...

    Apollo for dry hops?

I'd like to hear how dry hopping with apollo hops went. I am making a doulbe IPA, OG =1.088. I am using apollo for bittering then adding cascade, citra and simcoe. I am wanting to use 2 oz of cascade and simcoe with 1 oz of apollo for dry hop but am debating swapping citra for apollo. Not sure...

    IPA recipe apollo hops

Oh I see. That ups the volume to around 1.3L. I was reading Palmers book about making a yeast starter. I think he mentions the stepping up process. (adding more wort after first fermentation is done to increase cell count)

    IPA recipe apollo hops

You are correct, I have not made a starter before. I was trying to use Mr Malty and it is telling me to use 2 vials and 1.16L for my starter using intermittent shaking. Does that sound correct?

    IPA recipe apollo hops

Never mind that last part. I'll make a 2L started with 2 vials per mr malty

Will one bottle of white labs be ok if I make a starter? How much more late hops? Make the 0 additions 1 oz instead of .5?

    IPA recipe apollo hops

here is what I have so far, opinions? I am trying to get the FG down but I am not sure the program recognizes the effects of honey or corn sugar on FG. Size: 5.0*gal @ 68*°F Efficiency: 75.0% Attenuation: 75.0% Calories: 294.13*kcal per 12.0*fl oz Original Gravity: 1.088 (1.056 -...
