Toppling Goliath Sues ex-brewer over Non-Compete Violation

It's the Golden Rule: he who has the gold, makes the rules. Follow the rules, you get a bit of the gold. I've been fortunate, I guess. Never had a truly horrible employer. Even when I left a job, I left on good terms. Employers can only get the work done by means of employees. Treat them...

Help me plan my brew setup

Just random thoughts, haven't had my coffee yet. If propane, you'll be outside, or at best in a garage or carport, open to the world. Electric can go nearly anywhere, as long as you have a method to deal with the steam. Extra expense, if you have to upgrade your service, but very quiet...

Toppling Goliath Sues ex-brewer over Non-Compete Violation

Isn't that what 'inalienable' (or is it unalienable, I can never remember) means? Inherent rights that you can't give away, even if you wanted to?

    Cereal killer mill adjustment problems

Sounds like time to get customer service involved. Could be undersized rollers, mis-machined end plates, mis-machined eccentrics, or a combination of errors. Not a roller mill expert, but I am the best machinist I know.

    Cereal killer mill adjustment problems

Once you get it set to your liking, you can use a center punch to make your own index marks. +1 on the feeler gage, you can't trust the factory marks on a gadget like these.

Boil kettle condenser - no overhead ventilation needed

Wish I had a pencil and a napkin, it just ain't the same on a phone. Here goes. Two pieces of sheet metal, edge to edge. On top, a piano hinge. On bottom, another strip of sheet metal, attached to one side only. As the hinge opens, the seal strip falls away, as hinge closes, gap is...

Toppling Goliath Sues ex-brewer over Non-Compete Violation

You don't need a non compete clause in a company town. There's nowhere else to work .... [emoji444] "I owe my soul to the company store" [emoji444]

Boil kettle condenser - no overhead ventilation needed

Maybe something like those counter weighted flapper thingies that keep rainwater out of a tractor's exhaust? No idea what they are called or if you can get them in stainless. With sufficient weight and a silicone gasket I think it would seal well enough. You could also use it to check boil...

Upgrading to 10 gallon batches - Minimal Equipment (AG)

If I understand your goal correctly, you could: 1. Mash in 15 gal kettle. 2. Store wort in 2 x 8 gal kettles. 3. Clean mash tun. (Just hose it out, sanitizing not needed.) 4. Boil wort in 15 gal kettle. No need for 2 burners (I think).

    Alcohol content.

That, I believe, is the best way to do it. I was referring to the mention above about the 'potential ABV' scale. You have to use the before and after numbers to reach actual ABV. I trust your method more. Edit: I didn't answer the question, did I? What I mean is, you can't just read the...

Unhopped Malt Extract WAY after expiration date

It takes pretty good pressure to bulge a steel can like that. If you must open it, poke a vent hole with a punch or screwdriver. Use a towel that you don't want anymore to divert the inevitable spew of ... G_d knows what. Definitely don't breath, ingest, or touch anything that comes out. I'd...

    Alcohol content.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. To use the ABV scale on a hydrometer, you must take readings before and after fermentation. The difference between the two will be the ABV, not the actual reading after fermentation. Personally, I only check ABV to fill in a blank on the log sheet. If...

Finally got a chest freezer need advice on most effective way to set up temp control

I like putting something under the fermenter, especially if it's glass. I use a black plastic oil drain pan. It has saved a lot of cleanup those times I should have used a blow off tube - but didn't.

    Who can you trust?! (Thermometers)

Thank you. You would be welcome, I love building things. As to knowing everything: work in a steam engine room, and you have to learn or die. Put me at a computer, and I'm like a chicken watching a card trick.

    Frodus's 10-gal electric HERMS with HMI/SCADA

I am certain I would do this also, if it were even remotely possible. I therefore used a range plug on the HLT, and a twist-lock plug on the BK. So idiot-proof even I can't mess it up.
