    Yeast and septic systems

The reason I posted this thread is because a guy called me, at 8:30 in the morn, to sell me his product to treat my septic. I am glad that he annoyed me to the point that I hung up. Brewing beer is good for the mind, the soul, and the septic system! Love brewing! Cheers

    Yeast and septic systems

Occasionally after kegging I will pour the yeast cake and remaining trub down my drain and into my septic system. Has anyone researched brewers yeast and septic systems. I know this is not an exciting topic but for those of us with septic systems it is a concern.

Jelp with no carbonation in stout

I brewed a 10gallon batch of an Irish dry stout about 6 weeks ago. I kegged half and bottled the other half. Both taste great but after 2 weeks the bottles are under carbonated. I was thinking about pouring or some how racking the bottles to a keg and putting it on gas. I fear oxidation if I...

    Messy starter

Made a 2 liter starter in 2000 ml flask ( I know probably to small) with 2 vials of california ale yeast. I left it over night on my stir plate and when I checked it in the morning there was yeast mess all over the outside of the flask in the towel I had Covered it with. I was brewing a 12...

Pot size for 10+gal batches of BIAB

I brew 10-12 gallon batches in a 15 gallon kettle. I would go with a 20 gallon kettle. When I do a 12 gallon batch my kettle is full. Hope this helps :mug:

First AG tomorrow, a few questions

Even when you plan ahead s@$t happens. I brewed a citra hopped pale ale yesterday. Everything was great. I put my wort chiller in with 15 mins left. Turned my pump on to run water through the chiller and water squirted everywhere. I burnt a hole in the inlet tube. I quickly fixed that. Turned...

I'm a little nervous... Just placed an order with KegConnection

Hey, time is money! The less time you spend on bottling more time you get to spend with the wife. Go for a 15 gallon kettle. You won't be sorry. I have a 15 and wish I got a 20. Since you don't have a wort chiller you can get the proper size. See I just saved you money. Don't buy two chillers...

I'm a little nervous... Just placed an order with KegConnection

We have to spread the cost over time! At least that is my justification.

I guess I am lucky. Me wife got me a keg and co2 cartridge setup. I thanked her but explained that more kegs and a gas canister is much better. Good thing she likes my beer or I would be in more trouble. She's a good one!

You should definitely get rid of the equipment as soon as you can. You better let me take it from you so you don't lose your balls:-) Mug

    Low temp fermentation

Thanks for all the help. Cheers

    Low temp fermentation

I Have been brewing a couple of IPA's using California Ale Yeast. Usually my fermenting temps are around 68 to 70. During the col months my temps have been around 62 to 64. What will the lower temperatures do to the flavor? (i.e. enzymes and the flavors they produce) Thanks for the help!

    Brew pot size

No I never did. I plan on getting a plate chiller and some pumps. It's an expensive addiction!

    Brew pot size

I was going to make a bigger one but I might switch to a plate chiller. It takes a little longer to chill the wort in large batches but it is doable. I would say go for the 20gal kettle and figure the wort chiller afterwards. I just bottled 3 1/2 cases last night. Can't do that in a five gallon...

    Brew pot size

With a copper wart chiller. It worked great for my smaller kettle but after a certain point I think it's just to small.

    Brew pot size

I went to a 15 gallon kettle but wish I had gotten the 20gal. I am surprised no one has mentioned it but I had issues cooling my 10 to 12 gal batches. I am now upgrading to a plate chiller and possibly some pumps. My point is if you try to save some money there is always something else you will...
