I haven't cut the spring, but lube didn't seem to help my sticking poppet. I got the Nano Canner adapter a few weeks ago and that was pretty disapointing, especially for how much it cost. That poppet stuck every single time no matter what I did.
The sooner you can start cleaning it, the better. It's not a stubborn scrub, but you do need to put a little elbow grease into it. She cleans up like new in no time.
I havent had it in a few years, but I think the choice of hops are a little off - from what I remember. Maybe it was too bitter or something. I'll have to find a pack and try again.
Wow.. sorry to sound harsh, but that is discusting. If I spill anything in mine, I soak it up with paper towels and wipe with a towel right then and there. Pride in your craft, man!
Last year I found an add on Offer-Up for a guy selling corny kegs and a bunch of random stuff that was moving out of state. He ended up giving me I think 8 kegs (all good shape), 3 5lb CO2 tanks, 4 plastic crates full of swing top bottles (had to be close to 60 of them), and a bunch of misc...
You guys should look into some sort of shock absorbing mat to put in the bottom of these. I put a dime size hole in mine from a full commercial metal bottom keg when I lost my grip on the handle. It only fell maybe 3-4 inches, but the metal is super thin on the inside.
I have the Brew Bag that is sized to fit the basket. I know they sell one that's a hair bigger to use without the basket as well. And clips, I have 4 utility spring clamps from Home Depot.
I tried one from Urban Roots in Sacramento that was really tasty. I can't remember the IBU, but it wasn't super bitter, pleasantly smooth and tasty with a lot of hop flavor. I hadn't heard of the style.. what's different between a regular IPA?
I busted the house cat here licking the trub dump port on my Grainfather conical last time. Hosed him down with some vinegar water and he got the hint thereafter. Some cats aren't phased by it, but it's worth a shot.
Are you using a bag in the basket? I haven't even bothered to use the basket on its own after the guy I got it from used said not to (brew bag). I noticed a little stratification too if you aren't getting it all mixed up well and dipping the basket. Seems like everyone does it different, but I...
I won't start past noon myself. It takes me roughly 6-7 hours to get a 5gal batch done on a Foundry from start to cleanup. I don't know how you guys can do this in 4 😓 The last beer I brewed ended up being during a big rain storm here. I had icicles on my nose and dozed off in the chair waiting...
