Historical Beer: Kentucky Common "Kiss Yer Cousin" Rye Kentucky Common Ale

:mug: Well that's because this thread pre-dates the BJCP style guidlines. A lot of folks credit O'Daniel and myself with "rediscovering" this style of beer- and this thread especially. I've gotten messages from commercial brewers (and even some local breweries) who have said they never heard...

    Canola

Make a small batch and test it... Just because none of us have heard of it, doesn't meant that it won't work... just that either no one has thought of it, but you and the OP... or that no one has posted anything. WHAT IF... you do a 1 or 2.5 gallon batch and it turns out it works and makes great...

Amarillo / Mosaic and Citra combinations?

I have a thread on two hop combinations that might give you some other ideas as well. Like other's have said, citra/mosaic is a great pair on it's own.

Any tricks on removing hop bag from carboy?

I've been seeing this thread for a few days, and although I don't DH much in carboys I was wondering if something like this would work. Like a dedicated for brewing only one. I'm not sure though, if it's totally sanitizable or not... Has anyone used one?

    Year-old yeast

Their rationalization for not simply accepting the fact that what they "believe" or "heard" or read in the "Great Yeast Bible" just might NOT be the be all and end all of dry yeast wisdom is so convulated I gave up even arguing with them... check it out here. You know the whole biblical John...

What precautions do I need to make when tapping a keg more than once?

If it's carbed you don't have to do anything. Just unhook and hook as needed.

    Michigan container deposit question

Yeah there's still a deposit/refund on beer and pop cans.... it should say on the label in small print.... But not on a brewery's "Crowler" cans.... But Pint and 12 ounce cans are still worth 10 cents. So where in my state are you?

    A beginners' guide to dry-hopping

We're having a discussion here about how much hops to DH with...it's about Centennial, but it applies really to any hop.... :mug:

    A beginners' guide to dry-hopping

I did, I was saying, pretty much what you said, everyone's gear and environment is different... and it's more helpful to new brewers to share our experiences, than repeat (and believe) "what they say." yeah, he's the new "Palmer says..." I respect what he's doing, and what he's contributing...

    Smokey juniper rye porter

Where's the other thread/discussion..... I was planning to brew a Juniper and Blood Orange Kolsch this weekend but ran into a snag in not being able to find any blood oranges or even blood orange juice this weekend.

    Blood Orange Juice + Beer

I have spent the last 2 days driving around metro-Detroit, hitting every fruit market and even whole foods....and there is almost NO blood orange ANYTHING to be found right now. I had planned to brew a juniper berry and blood orange Kolsch this weekend. I did manage to find both Blood Orange...

How much Citra would YOU dry hop?

I don't think I've ever used more than 2 ounces of any hop for DRYHOPPING. Since you're only really getting some more "nose" from it, it seems like a waste of money to throw more in there.

    Year-old yeast

I've kind of said the same thing over the years.... For example there's a whole argument that happens when someone (like me) mentions the "rehydrate on wort" method as outlined originall on the Fermentis website for their yeast, and now on their packages of Safale and Saflager yeast strains...

    A beginners' guide to dry-hopping

I've often found that many often believe things without actually experiencing whatever it is they "believe" for themselves... and that often other people have entire different experiences... For example "many people believed" for years that if you didn't get the beer off the yeast the day...

    Primary didn't seal tight! Problem?

You don't want an airtight seal.... Some people don't even use lids, they use plexiglass sheets sitting on top of the bucket or even plastic wrap... co2 pusing out keeps stuff from getting in. The purpose of an airlock is to vent out the buildup of EXCESS gas... but if it's getting out from a...

    No bubbles and no troubles.

If only more brewers had your attitude. An airlock is the most superfluous thing in the entire brewing process, yet so many folks put so much weight on what it does or doesn't do.....
