    OG Always Low

Yea seems much easier, I found one with both brix and SG for a good price! Gonna order today so I'm prepped for the next batch. I see Brewfather also has a correction for fermented wort/beer as well! Definitely gonna try that out as well.

    OG Always Low

I'm definitely gonna get one, been reading up on them today.

    OG Always Low

Haha that is quite a process! I'm just glad to know that there are some inconsistencies in the hydrometer readings. I think I need to get a refractometer to simplify the pre boil and OG readings. Thanks for the help!

    OG Always Low

Thanks for the response, I will try calculate the per boil gravity via OG and boil off now. I did use a hydrometer and I used brewers friend to correct for temperature. I took a measuring cups worth of wort out of the kettle while heating up to the boil. I let that cool in the fridge and then...

    OG Always Low

Looking for some advice, I keep undershooting my OG. The pre boil gravity is within 1 or 2 points but my OG is down to 6-8 points. I check my pre boil and post boil volume and it's correct for what I planned. What else am I missing? Today's brew was supposed to be: Planned: Pre boil: 1.045 OG...

New post a picture of your pint

My second brew and my first APA, brewed with Voss. One week after bottling and so far I'm really happy with it!

    First brew

Thanks for the info, since then to now I can definitely tell it has mellowed and now that "sour" is definitely more of a dry taste! I'm brewing my second one on Monday. A cascade pale ale with kviek. Very excited for it!

    First brew

My very first brew... Still has a sour aftertaste, but I have realised why. I'm still super excited!! There is a big sour aftertaste, I'm not sure if it was the chlorine sanitiser or anything else? It has the Belgian funk I love, but it follows with something I don't like. Either way, I'm very...

    First brew

Had a taste today, wow! What a difference! This is 3 and a half weeks in the primary. I just ordered a bottling bucket because I couldn't find a way to add sugar consistently without one. Hopefully in 3 weeks it tastes even better! Thanks for the input guys!

So have tweaked the hops again on no. 1... Any advice? I have already ordered 100g of cascade, im just messing around with where to put them.

    That's good info, thanks!

    Recipe Opinion

I ended up going with the APA just because the only mosaic I could get was from 2019. I changed the flameout hops to 30g for a bit more flavour/aroma.

    Recipe Opinion

Haha I will definitely make both, but I was set on no.1 up until today, but I was reading up on mosaic and then the decision wasn't as easy😂 my plan is one 5gal batch a month for now. I was planning on using instant oats? I read that will work fine. Otherwise I can get torrefied oats if...

    Recipe Opinion

So I want to order the ingredients for my next (2nd) batch tomorrow and I am torn between two options I have. They are both recipes I have found and adjusted, and both will be fermented with kviek voss because of fermentation temps. The first is an APA and the second is an American IPA. Which...

    First brew

Down to 1.002 today... Starting to clear up nicely!

    Gypsum

Thanks! So I'm guessing the one I found is the dihydrate version.
  18. Pozzi

    Gypsum

Unfortunately I don't have access to a home brew store in this part of the world, but I have managed to find a food grade calcium sulphate, so I'm guessing it will be the right version.
  19. Pozzi

    Gypsum

I want to use distilled water for my next batch so I used brew father to calculate the mineral/salt additions for the mash. The only problem I am having is which version of calcium sulphate I should buy? Calcium sulphate dihydrate or calcium sulphate anhydrous? Or will either work?

    First brew

So I just checked the FG again today, exactly two weeks after pitching and after correcting for temp I'm sitting at 1.004 or 1.005! Thanks all for the advice, gonna give it a few more days then check again. And it is definitely tasting better!
