    HOPS-BOPS 2012 Results?

I don't think anyone should regret that they sent in entries. I was there for the beer judging part at least and that was done right. I didn't get to see score sheets, but it looked like the judges were doing a good job writing extensive comments and there were several certified judges and a...

    HOPS-BOPS 2012 Results?

I agree. Whether or not this guys is eligible, it doesn't change the comments on my score sheet and the reviewer comments are no more or less valid because of who entered the competition. I've score sheets usually take a couple days to arrive, so I'm fine with that. IMO brewers should...

    HOPS-BOPS 2012 Results?

I honestly think that she was just kidding and being sarcastic. I'm there pretty often, Nancy is a saucy lady :p I just know that there was an adjustment that had to be made based on the organizer not being able to make it to the event on Saturday so maybe they are just sorting through the...

    HOPS-BOPS 2012 Results?

Okay I was there, entered beers, and stewarded entries for this competition. I don't know everything about what happened, but I'll provide some insight. 1. Ribbons for 1, 2, and 3 were given out at the event for each category (some were collapsed). Judging for each of the flights was completed...

South Jersey/Philly Group Buy... ROUND 13!

I work at Penn and live in southwest so I'd have to drive back over the bridge to get home. I wouldnt mind stopping at your place on my home if you are willing to have me. However, like you said it might be more trouble than it's worth, especially since I'll be getting 4 sacks of grain. Let me...

South Jersey/Philly Group Buy... ROUND 13!

BZ-WHT is fine with me, but I'll probably need it milled (no prospects on a cheap grain mill) if that's okay with you.

1 x TF-MOPA (Thomas Fawcett Maris Otter) 1 x CM-PALE (Canadian Malting Pale) 1 x CM-SPIL (Canadian Malting Pilsen) I'd be interested in a 50/50 split of Munich (CM-MUNH or BM-MUNH) and Wheat (CM-WHET) malts Also, if possible I'd like to have my grain milled as long as it doesn't hold up the...

Looking for input on pale ale recipe

I would consider a larger bittering charge and moving the 45 min addition to 30. I don't know how much flavor/aroma you will get from a 45 min addition vs. a 30, and more at 60 gives you the correct amount of bitterness. Also, I wonder if you have too much vienna and munich malts, I just think...

The stupidest comment on your beer

Stupid girl in my program: "Can I try one of your beers?" (Imperial Amber, 80+ IBU) Me: "I don't think you'll like it..." (she went to a brewpub with us one time and asked for woodchuck cidar! Girl: "I'd really like to try it though" I open up a bottle and pour into pint glass. She drinks...

Could my yeast be causing a medicinal taste?

You really shouldn't reuse yeast from hoppier/dry hopped beers. The hop residues just stick to the yeast cell walls and stay. Phenol flavor can be anything from clove to camphor-like, but if there is free chlorine in your water, that can take something spicy like that and turn it medicinal...

what bjcp category do you think this is

Not just that, this would be way over hopped (~45ish), too dark (no crystal malts in most trippels), too malty (most belgians are made primarily with super light pilsen or pale malts) not vienna or toastier english malts. This doesn't fit into any kind of style, but would be like an imperial...
