Wort dropped to 36°F with yeast

Please allay my fears: Will my yeast still be viable once the temperature of my wort warms back up? This morning it was at 36°F. I reprogrammed and it's warming back up, I just need to know if I should plan to re-pitch some yeast or not. Last night I finished up brewing a Centennial Blonde; I...

    UPS for Fermentation Chamber

I still need to figure this out. We just moved into a new (to us) house and I've been out of the state all week. So I need to check with everyone to find out if there was a power outage (perfectly explains the issue) or if the wiring to the shed out back (where I keep the fermentation chamber)...

    UPS for Fermentation Chamber

What size/brand UPS should I use for my fermentation chamber? It appears that the power to my fermentation chamber is tripping slightly. When this happens it resets my STC-1000 back to the beginning of the cycle. Since I set my temp for primary fermentation it's not really a concern of bad...

Worst Commercial Beer You've Ever Had?

Yes. The watermelon Dorado is simply terrible. The watermelon flavor tastes like watermelon vape fluid smells to the non-vaper. Did not finish it. It made me sad because I like a lot of Ballast Point beers. Not representative of the rest of the brand.

How many gallons of homebrew in 2016?

    6129 + 11 Centennial Blonde = 6140

    Forgot to attach the picture.

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

Doing up another 11 gallons per the recipe. Hit a great 1.040 pre-boil efficiency and the new burner send to be sipping gas. And it's quiet. A few more minutes and I'll drop the flavor hops. This was a huge hit the last time I did it and I've got a housewarming to serve in two weeks. Thanks...

    Bell's Two Hearted beats Pliney

Two hearted is a great IPA. Pliny has a depth of hop goodness that defies reason. Both are good eepahs. Pliny is a hands-down winner for me.

    What are you drinking now?

A 2013 SamiChlaus. Been saving this for awhile and moving in to the new house is the perfect celebratory reason to drink it. Malt, booze, sweetness and light. Great beer.

Strong Bitter Bit R Done - 2014 Gold Metal ESB

It's ESB season for me and I won't be able to brew for another couple of weeks due to moving. That makes baby pandas sad. It also means even longer until I can brew this up again. It will be my 5th batch.

What I did for beer today

Used the beer gun to bottle up some of the punk monk for sharing next week. Drinking some of it, too.

Specialty IPA: Belgian IPA Texan Punk Monk

This was originally posted by Brew Dog as part of their tranche of recipes they released in 2016. Due to a lack of Ahtanum hops at my LHBS I subbed out for Amarillo. It worked really well. Malt: 12 Lbs Pale Malt (L.D. Carlson German Pale Ale Malt in my case) Hops: 0.62 Amarillo @ 60min 0.50...

    What brewery are you visiting?

Carlsbad. Had brunch at cafe tropes, first.

    I got better at this

This is why I try to invite people over for brew days. Talk them through each process with a rationale as to why. I believe it will give them confidence when they decide to try it. It also gives me confidence because they pretty much become my security blanket. Symbiotic brewing relationship, yo!

    I got better at this

This. 100% this. I still see this happening all the time. On my less charitable days I have to restrain myself from typing out "do a search, n00b! " like a million times. Because when I pause and think I remember that when I had those same questions there was already a thread near the top of an...

    What brewery are you visiting?

I hit up Pizza Port and Stone out in San Diego last week. It was everything I hoped it would be and more. Then I found Pliny the Elder on tap on Saint Patrick's Day down on 30th Street. My work trip was better than yours. :)

    I got better at this

I started homebrewing back in 2010 when a friend introduced me to it. At the time I thought it was the coolest thing ever to brew my own beer, and it was easy enough to do, even in my apartment. My first couple beers were classic homebrew made with extract with all the typical mistakes. I did...

    What's in your fermenter(s)?

Just emptied 5 gallons of a Punk Monk clone into the keg. A few more weeks until I full up the fermenter in the new house. What to brew? What to brew?

    Fruit punch keg

It seems better, now. Last time I only let the oxyclean sit in the keg for a few minutes. This time I stripped down the keg and let it sit over night and also left the hardware I pulled off the leg soak in the solution. No more smell of fruit punch. Now I need to make that terrapin rye clone...

    Fruit punch keg

I picked up a keg from my lhbs and noticed right away that it smelled of fruit punch. I cleaned it out with oxyclean and filled it up with my terrapin rye. Apparently not well enough and my beer just got dumped because rye flavored fruit punch is gross. I haven't given up on the keg but need to...
