New in New Mexico, but temporarily overseas...

I hit that intersection by 6:30AM - straight shot up to the Wyoming gate. 15 - 20 min tops. They are ripping up the interstate though. In the afternoon crapshoot at best. I try to leave aroung 4:30 - to beat the 5PM traffic.

New in New Mexico, but temporarily overseas...

I hope that is my house....I am within a mile. I work at the labs. I visit the Tacos to make measurements and the like with their Jets.

New in New Mexico, but temporarily overseas...

Not a flight guy....but I have done a bit of work with the TACOS. I work about 5 min from their hangars. By the way my house is for sale IN ABQ. (sorry Yuri). Good to see some more NM folks here, there is only a handful that I can tell.

Failing to intentionally ruin a beer?

That is the funniest thing I have heard all day...week.

O.G. taken after yeast pitched...hydrometer reading off?

My readings are not that reliable at high temps. I took a reading at 122f yesterday 1.030, temp corrected, by the time it had cooled to 70f the reading was 1.036. I always take OG after I pitch - then I monitor progress during primary. It is usually a good indicator of what is going on, but...

    Forced Carb Question

I have done both. I do not think connecting the CO2 to the out without a diffuser helps get the gas into solution faster. To answer your question yes, for me, that it is a good summery. You just need to find what works for you. Some set to the serving pressure and wait 2 - 3 weeks. The...

    Forced Carb Question

Probably not, but it depends on how carbonated you like your beer. I usually let it sit on 22lbs for 3 days (no shaking), I then lower it to the serving pressure (7 - 10 lbs). Then I let it sit for another week. It is usually ready by then. I have moved away from strict attention to...

    I hate HomeDepot!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I did not know that, makes sense. I thought it was for marketing. I also get annoyed when they ask. I was in line behind some people and the cashier was asking for the number and making small talk - being annoyed already by the number thing when it was my turn I ended up just repeating the...

    Carbonation Tabs

I have since changed my method. I would mount the racking cane in a drilled stopper and set at the bottom of the bottle, but the stopper held some pressure in. Live and learn. I think using the carb tabs I will also be able to top the bottles off better. I was able to get about 2" below the...

    Carbonation Tabs

I did. I was having trouble venting the bottle with my thumb and I think that batch was heavily carbonated.

    CO2 and sealing question?

I assume you mean as you dispense your brew. As the volume beer in the keg decreases additional C02 must replace the poured beer - to maintain the same pressure. If the pressure in the keg drops then some of the C02 would come out of solution to fill the additional volume - decreasing the...

    Carbonation Tabs

Thanks. That is how I have filled from the keg. It works great. The first few times I ended up with a face full of foam. I am interested in getting it all taken care of when I am kegging. Also, since I only have two kegs (1 is a loaner) and I never seem to make back to back batches of the...

    Carbonation Tabs

Anybody use them? I usually keg my homebrews, but I would like to bottle up 12 or so from each batch for sampling to friends. I have tried to dispense from the keg using a picnic tap and racking cane. This is pretty successful, but I would like to also compare the difference between forced...

    Funny Corporate Culture Analogy

Yup. - Promote incompetence and drink the cool aid. Office Space is a documentary not a comedy. I spent 3 hours yesterday with one of our cool aid drinkers discussing a ladder. I need to get into the cockpit of an airplane and he wanted to pursue scaffolding just in case I fell off the...

How Long have you been Brewing

I just thought I would ask. It has probable been done before but.... I have been brewing since 1998 or 1999. For the first 8 or 9 years is was all DME/LME with small amounts of specialty grains. It seems that I sort of flat-lined in the amount of knowledge I had until I started lurking...

    Kids and Swings

I rotate between 3 at a time on the swing. 1 - year old "giggles" 3 - year old "higher higher " 6- year old "I guess you hate me, you are pushing them more" It is fun. I think they could do that for 8 hour stretches. My kids are a lot of fun and all have wonderful personalities. I...

Max grain in 5 gallon Igloo?

I did 15lbs once - OG was 1.077, eff was 81% (added 1 lb. candy sugar to wort). The mash was really thick 1qt/lb. The 5gal igloo was filled to about 1 inch below the top. I think I would not do this again, although I am enjoying the brew.
