Other Half Daydream (oat cream IPAs) - all grain clone attempts

Seems like I read that brews with a high amount of oats may take a bit longer to carb. I just kegged my version today. Currently sitting at 30 psi. Hoping by Saturday it will be ready to drink. In my version I used 56.6% pilsner, 16.2% malted oats, 16.2% flaked oats, 8.1% white wheat and 3%...

    guidance needed for smoker recommendations

https://grillagrills.com/ I have enough smokers and grills but if i were in the market for one I would go for the Kong. Best of both worlds. One of the grills I have is a Big Steel keg. it's about 7-8 years old but i mainly use it for gilling as I have a dedicated smoker (Stumps).

Other Half Daydream (oat cream IPAs) - all grain clone attempts

I'll be kegging mine tomorrow or Tuesday. Anxious to see how it turns out, especially the mouthfeel.

Other Half Daydream (oat cream IPAs) - all grain clone attempts

Here's the uncarbonated version. FG checked in at 1.008 which is unsurprisingly low since I missed my OG. Makes this a 5.78 ABV. Going to probably keg tomorrow and should be ready by middle of next week.

Is kegging that much of a PITA?

I did the bottling thing for two years and I bitched every time. I finally had enough and just built a keezer. The initial investment is a con but after that it's smooth sailing. You may want to see what it will cost to get your CO2 tanks filled. I'm lucky as my HBS charges $15 for a 10 lb fill...

    Kegland Counterflow Chiller

2250 watt boil coil. No problem getting to or maintaining a boil. Just when I add my IC at 15 min left it never returns back to a boil. If you can get to a boil using 1500 watts after adding your IC then not sure why I cant using 2250 watts.

    What are you drinking now?

    6.8%. Not a bad beer.

    Foamy beer

Also, if you are buying your line from a hardware store that's probably the thin wall line, not the thick stuff used in the brewing industry. You can check out Morebeer or Williams Brewing for the EVA line and fittings.

    Foamy beer

The line could be the issue. 1/4" is normally for long runs. If you are able order some EVA Barrier and get some john guest/doutight fittings to connect your lines to your shanks and couplers. Makes life much easier to use JG fittings.

    Kegland Counterflow Chiller

I'll try and determine what shipping cost will be. Still undecided if I want to go with a counterflow chiller or just keep the CUSS since it's only a few months old.

    Kegland Counterflow Chiller

Let me think about it. I'll need to figure what shipping is. Which fittings did you use?

    Kegland Counterflow Chiller

Anyone using? If so worth the buy? I currently use a CUSS IC which I really like. The problem is using an electric 110v system with a boil coil just doesn't cut it. When I put the chiller in, the wort never gets back to a boil. Looking for an inexpensive counterflow chiller that can chill 5.75...

    Temp swings using ITC 308

I calibrated it when I got it about 2 yrs ago. Haven't tried again. Maybe it's time to check it.

    Temp swings using ITC 308

I'll also raise the probe up some to see what the temp difference is. I've always had it about half way down.

    Temp swings using ITC 308

Nothing has changed- I usually ferment in the 65-68 range. I normally see a 2 degree swing down past my set temp, but never as much as I saw over the weekend. I dont know what would have caused that but it appears to have settled out, or at least I think it did. I work during the day so I cant...

    Foamy beer

No need to change out your lines every 4 kegs. I kept my initial lines for 2 years before switching to EVA Barrier.

    Foamy beer

What type of lines are you using? If you are using Bev Seal Ultra then you will need 12-15'. If using vinyl then probably half that. I started out using the stiff stuff (Bev Seal Ultra) but have since switched to EVA Barrier (4MM) with John Guess fittings using 6' with no foaming issues. My...

Yea I can adjust it. It's probably about half way into the wort.

Other Half Daydream (oat cream IPAs) - all grain clone attempts

I didn't notice mine looking any different. I had roughly 16% flaked oats, 16% malted oats and about 8% white wheat. The mash was somewhat gummy but i expected that. The sample tasted good but until it's carbed it is hard to tell what it will taste like. At least that's how it is for me.

    SS Brewtech Brew Bucket

Everyone has their own opinion. For me, if the nut holding the valve isn't tightened just right it will leak- either over-tightened or under. The orings on the racking arm suck. I've been through three sets in 2 years. they stretch and if not careful when inserted the racking arm they will come...
