    Hornindal starter question

I've always made a starter but since this yeast is a beast you probably will be ok without a starter. Most people only pitch a tablespoon and I can see how that would work. Vitality starter probably will not hurt.

    Pepper stout beef

After about 3 hrs its time to add veggies and liquid. Probably gonna be another 3 hrs before it's ready. Also have some baked beans. Don't know about you guys but it's FN hot here in S. Louisiana.

    NEIPA looks oxidized everytime, but

How are you getting your fermented beer to your keg? Are you purging your keg of oxygen? How active is your boil? A more aggressive boil can darken your wort. Next brew go with Pils and either 2 row (1.8L) or golden promise as your base and add in flaked wheat/ flaked oats and oat malt. Oat...

new fermenter - cleaning practices for SS fermenters

I put a thin coat of keg lube but they stretch and after a few uses they slip off. I have been putting the racking arm with the o rings in the freezer prior to use. I then either coat w keg lube or spray with starsan then insert. They should have designed that differently. Enjoy your new fermenter.

new fermenter - cleaning practices for SS fermenters

It's the two small cheap ass o rings that fit on the dip tube. Unless they redesigned it you need to use two for it to fit snug in the valve.

new fermenter - cleaning practices for SS fermenters

I initially ordered the Anvil but sent it back to the manufacturing marks on the inside. Some were deep enough to catch a fingernail. I then bought the SSBT Brewbucket. It doesn't have the manufacturing marks like the Anvil does but I absolutely hate the dip tube. The two o rings suck. They...

BlowTie spunding valve help needed, please

You need to determine where the leak is. If it's from the gauge then that would be an issue. Could be coming from the tubing not set right in the fittings. Did you submerge in water with gas connected? If not do that. If there are no leaks then your keg is leaking. Did you check the keg seals?

BlowTie spunding valve help needed, please

I have the older version without the integrated gauge. No issues. As mentioned, close the valve completely then attach your gas line and submerge in water to check for leaks. Probably only need a couple psi to see bubbles. Make sure the tubing is all the way in on the duotights. Take an empty...

    Wyeast 2124 (harvested 10/24/19)

I thought about fermenting warm and under pressure. Gonna have to revisit the yeast starter calculator to make sure I read it right. Either way I don't want to do a 3 step starter. Main reason I don't brew lagers. Too much hassle for me.

    Wyeast 2124 (harvested 10/24/19)

Looking to brew a German Pils using the above that I harvested from a starter I made last year. According to Home Brew Dads calculator, I would need to do a 3 step starter, (2L each) since the viability is only 15%. I don't have the time to do a 3 step starter and to be honest, don't really want...

Hope you bought duo tight or John guest fittings.

    Bev-Seal Ultra Line Length Poll

You should have ordered EVA barrier line. Much better than Bev seal ultra. I used bev seal ultra for about two years. Too hard to deal with and too fn stiff. They are better than the cheap vinyl lines and if you use the duo tight fittings will make your life way easier.

Lots of assumptions but here goes...

There is other material in the photo besides yeast. I used to harvest from a brew like you do but quit because of the space it took in my fridge. I had half a shelf of pint size jars. Got tired of my wife complaining. I now make starters, which you can do. I brew 5.5 gal batches and I harvest...

Other Half Daydream (oat cream IPAs) - all grain clone attempts

You can always put your grains in a food processor to get them finer. I got tired of getting the evil eye when asking the HBS to double crush my grains. I ended up just getting a mill. Even a Corona mill will work but will take a long time to mill grains for a 5 lb batch. I've been double...

Sierra Nevada Pale recipe vs stats

I usually aim for 50. I also never boil for 90 min. I say go with what the recipe calls for first time. You may find 38 is good for you but when I drink the commercial version my taste buds tell me its closer to 50. Thats the bottle version. The draft version may be 38. I would adjust my hops...

Sierra Nevada Pale recipe vs stats

SNPA is far more than 38 IBU's IMO. At least it seems that way. The recipe listed isn't close, taste wise. I have brewed several versions and never could get close to the commercial version. If you are going with 38 IBU's I would go high on your gypsum additions.

Five pound CO2 tank - Is it full?

I usually use my home brew store to fill my tanks. In the summer, they put the tank in a bucket of ice, then start to fill. Problem is it takes 2-3 hrs to fill a 10 lb tank. Since I'm working from home I took my tank to a fire safety place. They have a pump system and took all of 5 min to fill...
