Fermentation Enclosure for heating and cooling?

Great point, I did take that into consideration when building a chamber but I hoped that with good insulation and air circulation it would at least last a few years. When it was all said and done with beer fermenting the compressor doesn't kick on very often and when it does it doesn't seem to...

You know you're a home brewer when?

You know you're a homebrewer when you're dropping your kid off at school and when she gets out you have to tell her to brush off the huge dust marks on her black leggings from the spilled grain in your front seat.

Funny things you've overheard about beer

There's a terrible local brewery near me that has a 'pils' on tap. Come to find out its an ale fermented with kolsch yeast and pilsner malt. Heavy ester profile too, gets under my skin that he calls it a pils. No wonder I've been there twice in two years. Never again.

    my rustic upright

Thanks! Nothing special for the wood. Used a 2x2 for the handle and for the backsplash/chalkboard are boards I found at HD by the hardwoods. I think they were called 'standard board' iirc but they were cheap, doug fir I think and came in 4' lengths. Took my time picking out the nicest one...

    my rustic upright

Thanks! Lets see, for the interior; the shelf is just plywood with 2x4 legs. TapRite 4 way regulator attached to the 2x4 legs. 4 6'' SS shanks. I used Bev-seal tubing for the beer lines and the red co2 tubing. That's about it for the interior, just pulled out all the existing shelving and...

    my rustic upright

Thanks, I do use the freezer. The doors are pinned together so they open as one, I have a few lbs of hops and some tamales chillin.

    my rustic upright

Although it's not as nice as a lot of kegerators you guys have built I thought I would share Mine. It turned out way better than I anticipated and It's a little different of a build than most the uprights I've seen. It started as a $60 craigs list fridge and was a bunch of fun building so enjoy.

2015 : Anyone have their hops growing yet?

Noticed my Centennials popping up over the weekend. Added some manure/compost and cut about 10 rhizomes off the crowns. Left the new growth, I figure I'll cut those shoots down when they are a little bigger.

What came in the mail for you today?

Should have some packages when I get home. One will be some beers from a buddy in MI, hopslam and different beers from founders and maybe some other treats he didnt tell me about. Also some check valves from US plastic and gas like from Ritebrew. Big day for me!

Water chemistry, big flameout additions (whirlpool/hopstand is a must), huge dry hop, and drink fresh.

    Brett Trois Starter

I did a 2 step starter with this yeast for an all brett ipa. 1l for two days, cold crashed and decanted. Next step was 2l for 3 days, cold crashed, decanted and pitched. FG 1.010 Although the beer turned out damn good it seemed like just a good attenuating clean ale yeast w/ very slight...

    My "Restoration Hardware" style keezer

Awesome job on making it look rustic, I love that look. I'm building a upright kegerator with a distressed look, I ordered some hardware and straps from tetoniron.com to go with the rustic look. The screws or even just decorative straps would finish off your keezer nicely but it looks great as...

My Mini Fridge to Fermentation Chamber Build

Thanks to this thread I was able to build my own chamber and it's working great so far. It did turn out a little big but at least I can still park in the garage so I'm fine with it being a beast. I bet I could fit 6 carboys in it with room for a couple kegs to condition. Thanks for the...

    imperial red ale- more red?

+1 on the roasted barley. I add an oz or two to mash out if I'm looking for a nice deep red to the final beer w/o flavor impact.

    Fermentation Chamber Build (Picture Heavy)

Looks great! I'm in the middle of building one and seeing yours I should have enclosed the fridge instead of leaving it hanging off the side. Was the backside by the fridge left open for cooling the hot side? That would be my only concern when enclosing the fridge but looks like you covered it...
