Denver area rooted hops cuttings free

I have cuttings from Saaz and Centennial that I rooted. If you are in the Denver area and want them, let me know. They are free, but I don't think that they will survive shipping, so local pickups only. I am in the southeast Aurora area.

    How many pounds of hops?

28 ounce of centennial running total of about 33 pounds, give or take

    Some browning of my cones

So long as the brown ones still have the yellow lupulin, they will be good. The browning should be a small percentage of the total. I have used brown cones with no discernable ill effects. Remember that you are going to boil them for a significant time in the wort. I am not certain, but...

recipe building with homwgrown dried hops

I was told that home grown, hand picked hops have more lupulin (so higher AA%) in them as they are handled less than commercial hops. I use the dry weights and falor to taste. I vacuum pack hops for storage in the freezer after they are good and dry.

I picked them this weekend and my neighbor helped. Maybe next year.

    Colorado harvest?

Mine are not ready, but I have a bad habit of waiting too long to harvest them after they turn all brown. I have harvested as late as October when they are crispy. They still worked in the beer.

Great American Beer Fest - Denver CO

I signed up to volunteer at the Brew Studio. I have not attended the GABF. Can someone give me an idea what they do in the Brew Studio? I have not heard from the brew studio coordinator yet.

Will Hops grow sideways across a chain link fence?

Chain link will get very matted with the hops and will be difficult to cut the bines off in the winter. It may be better to train them to grow on a string that is attached to the fence instead. They will grow horizontally or simply down the other side of the fence.

    Yeast Washing Illustrated

I still have 3 pint jars of 1084 left, but the new stuff that I pitched was bubbling within hours. I will try the yeast starter again, though. My calculations for the OG indicate that I only had 1.015 SG potential; I did not test the OG. The starter was at about 1.010 FG after sitting for...

    Yeast Washing Illustrated

It has a foam boiling airlock. I didn't take the gravity as it was a small amount of wort, but it was roughly 1 part DME to 4 parts water in the boil. To that I added the yeast slurry from the mason jar. I will give it shot and if it doesn't fire up, I will check it and possibly add other yeast.

    Yeast Washing Illustrated

I washed some 1084 Irish Ale yeast from a primary fermenter. I boiled water and pint mason jars and stored it in my fridge for about a month. I tried to restart the yeast in a flask with 1/4 cup of DME and 600ml water, which was boiled and chilled to 70 degrees. I poured off most of the...

    I killed my hops.

What kind do you want? I can dig up some more Centennial if you are interested. You can also try taking some clippings from someone local and rooting them. I would plant the rhizomes that you think are dead. They may come back. I have had that happen.

    anyone else still planting rhizomes?

I have planted them as late as July and they came back the next year. There was no crop the first season, but they grew. Hops are really easy to grow, so relax, water them well and fertilize when they start growing.

    Rhizome swapping thread 2011

I have Centennial and Saaz for free. I am located in Aurora, Colorado. PM me for a time that you can come and dig.

Might not be getting plants in the ground this year.

Stick them in the ground. Rig up a slow watering system with a 55 gallon container and either a wicking rag or a small hole in the bung.

How long for rhizomes to emerge?

I harvested about a pound, though I have not been as dilligent about pruning or running a support system. I now have better methods to support the hops, so I hope to get better results this year. I always need tomatoes, so PM is you have extra.

Who is Growing Hops in 5 Gallon Buckets?

You could make a self watering planter out of 2 buckets. Use the top one for the soil and put ropes in it to the bottom one, which will have water.

How long for rhizomes to emerge?

My hops have sprouted, but they are 5 to 10 years old. If you need more rhizomes, you can dig some up from my yard. I am in southeast Aurora. PM me. I have some Saaz, Centennial and some Cascades.
