    Oktoberfest/Marzen Grist

I would like to make an oktoberfest/marzen style beer. I've seen all kinds of recipes for the grist, everything from just munich malt to a grist of serveral different grain. Because of what I have in stock Im wondering if a grist of 1/3 Pilsner(actually lager malt as that what I have in) , 1/3...

If there was only one yeast left on earth, and it was dry...?

I haven't read most of the thread, so someone else might have suggested it, but if you'd like to collect data and 'tally up' which yeast people would use if they could only use one. Perhaps do a poll (when you create a new thread, it's at the bottom) so the thread doesnt go off topic

Need Dry Yeast for California Common

I've never used nugget hops but this yeast definately seems to accentuate hop flavour. Perhaps thats why the grapefruit aroma?

Looking for ESB grain and hop bill advice

Oh, yes. I'd forgot about Tribute. Mrs MQ's Parents live in Newquay, Cornwall so we go there about every six months. Suffice to say much St Austell's beer gets drunk

Looking for ESB grain and hop bill advice

Keeping the Amber in the reciepe is fine, I usually use biscuit for my bitters and use about 5%. The reason I use biscuit is because I use lager malt for my base malt for everything so I only have to buy one base malt and add some biscuit to get it a bit closer to the flavours you get from...

    Mangrove Jack Empire Ale M15

As others have said, this is probably the Newcastle Dark Ale rebranded. I was aware tha this yeast had a lowish attenuation when I used it so I added some golden syrup (a partially inverted sugar which is very common over here in the UK) and ended up with an attenuation in the low 70s but it...

What direction should I go after first brew with mini 1 gallon fermenter?

What the above poster said, they're also know as stove toppers (usually 1 gallon), plenty of online shops sell the complete ingredient kits for 1G here in the UK, so I assume they do too in the US, having never had any reason to look

5L mini keg with Tap - how long does it last?

Am I understanding correctly? The date stamp on that post is 29/1/16, so you had a keg tapped for over a month? Was that using the integral gravity tap or a party star tap?

    Extreme heat tolerant yeast strain

Could it be Mangrove Jacks Work Horse yeast? That is good up to 90F. I use it during the hottest part of our summer here in the UK (not that it gets that hot here in London. The only difference between summer and winter is the rain gets a bit warmer) MJ no longer does it but (at least here in...

Need Dry Yeast for California Common

I think you've read the thread where I mentioned I used MJ CaliLager yeast to make a Challenger Steam Lager. I'm a mod on HBT's UK sister forum HBF. One of our members used the same yeast to make a Californian Common style using MJ CaliLager yeast and he was pleased with his results...

    Mangrove Jacks M54 CA common

I really like this yeast. I fermented at 17C (whatever that is in F for you Americans) and produces a fairly clean crisp beer. But it does also seem to produce a malty beer too. Which I like

    Helping WLP002 attenuate?

You could always buy a bottle of 1845 and culture the yeast up. I've read the original Fullers strain is higher attenuating than WLP002.

    Getting yeast from local Brewpub/brewery

I emailed my local micro about the yeast they used in their steam beer and they were happy to give me some if I went round there. I've read about some of our forumites over on Home Brew Forum going on brewery tours and asking for some yeast and being given some

    Mangrove Jacks M54 CA common

I used this yeast in a pseudo Lager/steam beer and I didnt see any activity for about 3 days before it got going

Should I mash lower when making pseudo lagers

I was actually going to use Mangrove Jacks Workhorse yeast. I'm aware you can use lager yeast at ale temps but I dont wont any sulphur smells stinking up my apartment. I dont mind a bit of fruityness, it doesnt have to be super clean for me. I'm more envisioning a cross between a blonde ale and...

Should I mash lower when making pseudo lagers

Am I correct in my understanding that lager yeasts can chew through some of the sugars that ale yeasts are unable to. Therefore lagers are often drier than ales. If that being so, should I mash low when making pseudo lagers using ale yeast?

Danstar London ESB Dry Ale Yeast - Anyone use it yet?

Here's another review of this yeast on HBTs UK sister forum post 23 by trueblue http://www.thehomebrewforum.co.uk/showthread.php?p=622579#post622579

    Authoritarianism/rules and regulations

I think everything you've said their is how we run our forum over at HBF. We've got a reptutation for being very friendly because we step in when things cross a line. Like you say if people dont like it they're free to go elsewhere :mug:

    Authoritarianism/rules and regulations

I was under the impression distilling was legal (in some states, as it seems from other threads I've read here alcohol laws can vary widely from state to state) in the US. It's illegal here in the UK

    Layers in harvested commercial yeast

Possibly/probably trub from the DME (if that's what you used to propogate with)
