    Lager hopburst with Saaz

Has anyone tried this ? If not - any guesses as to how it will turn out? Im considering it for my next lager brew but it will need a tonne of 3% Saaz which I'd hate to waste. 26oz in total. Im thinking : 10g batch 1.045 Pilsner malt and maybe some crystal W34/70 Saaz at 20/10/5/0/DH 36IBU

    Kettle cleaning

How do you clean your kettle ? Ive got a hard brown residue at the bottom of my kettle that won't come off. Ive soaked with hot oxyclean and sodium hydroxide but it won't budge. Besides scrubbing it off with steel wool whats the best way to get it clean again ?

    The Boil and Hops

I brewed an APA with Citra. 20min boil and hopburst. Two techniques Ive not tried before. I added the first hops before I was finished sparging, trouble is when I had boiled for 20mins the sparge wasn't finished. I had to boil an extra 10mins which pushed my IBU from 36 to 46 (!). And so much...

"Hop Tea" method for adding aromatics

Perhaps a better method would be to use cold water in the french press and to let it sit overnight before adding to keg or at bottling. This would ensure no aromatics are lost to heat but would allow enough time. Another idea is to use the beer thats being kegged / bottled. In other words...

    The Boil and Hops

Thanks guys. Im going to give a hopburst a try with a 20min boil and see what happens.

    The Boil and Hops

Im sure someone can answer these for me - thanks ! 1.) If Im half way through sparging but the wort is already boiling can I add my hops and start timing the boil or must I wait till I have sparged my full volume ? 2.) If Im planning hop additions from 30mins do I still need to boil for...

    Blichman Autosparge and RIMS circulation

Interesting, thanks for the replies. I'd hate to get an expensive peice of kit blocked up with grain. Has anyone here circulated wort through the Blichmann ?

    Blichman Autosparge and RIMS circulation

I currently recirculate (during the mash) and flysparge using the same in-let in my MLT but Ive been having issues with the float switch which controls my pump. Im considering getting the Blichman Autosparge but I was wondering : do you recirc wort (while mashing/RIMS) through the autosparge or...

Belgian Strong Golden Ale - Fermentation Schedule?

Ive only used yeast at bottling after lengthy secondaries (6 months +) I always get good carbonation without it. But you could use any yeast. 1/2 a teaspoon of dry ale yeast, rehydrated in water and added to the bottling bucket. Did you drink the sample I gave you ?

    Floor malted bohemian pilsner malt

Has anyone used this malt ? What were the differences to the beer compared to when using regular pilsner malt ?

So hops are fatal for dogs, what about other household pets?

While we're on the topic of dogs and beer...If Im not mistaken beer or anything alcoholic is very bad for dogs (and young children). Something to do with their not being able to metabolise the alcohol properly. Maybe one of the vets can comment on this.

lol We took a nailing from NZ on Saturday :( I havn't spoken to my neighbour in a while. I told him to warm it up but hes been hectic with work so Im not sure what hes done (you can take a horse to water (beer) and all that...).

Weyermans Amber LME stalled - reasons ?

Aaaaargh lol The main purpose of my thread was to establish if Amber LME is less fermentable. I obviously suspected the low temps caused it to stall. Thanks for the replies all. Clementine - didn't Samoa give you guys a hiding recently ? ;)
