    Dumb Beersmith Question...

IBU is weight of hops X strength (Alpha Acid %) X time (more or less). If the original recipe was for 10 gallons you need to cut the hops down for a 2.5 gallon batch. How much hops are you using and what AA ?

Fruit beer : Will tartness settle ?

I recently made a fruit beer using 9lb (10 gallon batch) frozen mixed berry mix (strawberries, raspberries, blackberries etc). I let it ferment for 5 days and then added the fruit. The fruits been in for about four days. The smell is great but the taste is VERY tart. I know its early days but...

    Festbier BierMuncher's OktoberFAST Ale (AG)

I made this with W34/70 (lager yeast). Fermented at 47F and lagered for 7 weeks. Its excellent. I realize using a lager yeast sort of defeats the purpose of this recipe but the point is if you need a "real" Oktoberfest recipe this one is great.

    Spicy Heart Attack Shrimp

I made this yesterday for a lunch party I had at home. I used 2kg prawns (four people eating), size was 21 to 25 prawns /kg - a fair size prawn (I assume a shrimp is a prawn or close). Changed the cooking procedure slightly - I dipped the prawns into the sauce, removed them and put them on a...

    Little Giant Pump

Yup. Is it the 115v or the 230v version ? Or can it be either ?

    Reinheitsgebot

Strangely it was a law untill the mid 80s afaik. Was mainly to stop the landlords/brewers pulling the ring out beer prices and ripping off the poor and to stop them using wheat.

Guinness Foreign Extra Now Available in the US

The only Guiness Extra we get here is brewed in Nigeria using Sorghum :( I recently found some of the real deal - very nice beer. Im not sure why Guiness comprimises their beer using Sorghum.

    False bottom and slotted manifold

Thanks for the pics bowtie. Can anyone tell me whether I can circulate using a slotted manifold ? I plan on upgrading my MLT at some point so I don't want to make a FB for the current one if I don't have to.

    Filthy A$$ Customers!!!

I noticed that in Singapore - used sh!t paper goes in the trash can instead of the toilet. There was some poor sod whos job it was to clean all the dustbins out. In Thailand most places (except the larger towns) had no sh!t paper - just a hose pipe instead. It took a bit of getting used to...

    False bottom and slotted manifold

Im in the process of building a RIMS. I currently use a cooler with a slotted manifold. Will the slotted manifold work with the RIMS for circulation or do I need to install a false bottom instead ? Also - if a false bottom is needed do I need to remove the slotted manifold or can I install the...

    Grolsch bottle bomb after 1yr+

I used cane sugar. The ones not yet drank are fine but I'll need to keep a close eye on them. Thanks for the replies - all theories make sense.

    Do I need to re-gelatine kegs ?

So far so good. Its been less than a week and all the kegs except a lager have cleared up nicely.

    Grolsch bottle bomb after 1yr+

One of my Grolsch bottles exploded. It was bottled more than a year ago with a Vanilla Porter. Most of the other bottles have been drank and were fine. As are the remaining bottles. Temperatures are no higher than normal. My thoughts are that if it was infected it would have exploded long ago...

    Drink more Mild!

Ive got a mild Mild on tap. 1.027 to 1.008. Slightly too mild. Next time I will go for about 1.035 to 1.010. But its excellent. I bought a couple of 1L jugs specially for it. I call it Lawnmower Mild - perfect for drinking while watching the gardener mow the lawn on a hot summers day.

    Do I need to re-gelatine kegs ?

On Saturday I took everything (kegs included) out of my keezer to clean it. Needless to say the movement has stirred up the sediment and the beer is no longer crystal clear. Will it clear up in a few days or do I need to add gelatine again ?
