    Bitter NEIPAs. Ferm. Temp. Problem?

Thanks, all, for all your thoughtful questions. Her is some more info: 1. It was a 5 gallon BIAB batch. No sparge. 2. Simcow and Galaxy hops. 3. 3oz each for hop stand in a spider. Added at 175. Temp dropped to 155 over twenty minute steep. 4. London III. One pouch. 5. Not sure of pH as I...

    Bitter NEIPAs. Ferm. Temp. Problem?

Hey there. I’ve been getting a lot of back of the tongue bitterness/astringency in my NEIPAs. I only use hopstamd and dry hops. 6 oz at about 165 degrees in a hop spider for the hop stand (20 minutes) and 6 oz added loose at day 2 and In the beer for 5 days. I don’t have temp control so I’m...

    Quickly connecting/disconnecting CO2

Hey gang. Recently, I've been exploring using CO2 to push beer from my fermenter into my corny. It's a pain because I have to detach the CO2 tank fro my keezer to use it and then re-attach it after. This involves slicing the tubing to get it off the keezer barb. I'd like a quick and easy way...

    Super long fermentation. Problem?

Hey there, Thanks for the info. I don't have a way of checking the gravity without a syphon and I'm afraid of letting O2 in. I usually keg on day 10 (which is today) but I'm hesitant because of the airlock activity.

    Super long fermentation. Problem?

Hey there. I've got a batch that won't seem to stop fermenting. Here are the details. NEIPA style. Wyeast 1318. Dry hop on day 3 and again on day 7. Brewed on a Sunday. Next Morning (day 2) was bubbling nicely. Day 3 - still bubbling Day 4 slowing Day 5 slowing. Kept slowing down. Now on Day 10...

    High final gravity

FWIW, I struggled with high final gravity for a while. It turned out that my thermeter was way off and my mash temp was 8 degrees higher than I thought. When I changed thermometers, my FG's dropped to what I expected.

    Keg "emptiness meter"

Hey there, I'm looking to use an Arduino and some type of weight sensor to determine how much beer is left in the kegs in my Keezer. The idea is to weigh the empty keg and then track the weight as the beer is consumed. Could anyone suggest a sensor that would be appropriate? Thank you!

    1318 high final gravity

The thermometer I've been using just reads "low" when it gets down to a certain temp. Not sure what, but not even close to 32F. I'm going to get another thermometer and compare with my current. I'll report back. Thanks all, for the input.

    1318 high final gravity

Sadly, the thermometer doesn't read down to 32F. However, during the boil, it reads 106F.

    1318 high final gravity

I have a theory that my thermometer is off. It's a digital thermometer meant for meat. Perhaps I'll pick up a new one.

    1318 high final gravity

Thanks for these replies! Here is some more info... -I measure OG with a refractometer and FG with a Hydrometer. -Length of fermentation = 2 weeks (14 days) -Not sure about fermentation temp. I don't have a way to measure it. -I use one smack pack of 1318 for a 2.5 gallon batch. I've also used...

    1318 high final gravity

Hey there, I've been using 1318 to brew NEIPAs and I can't seem to get the final gravity below 1.022. Usually, it comes in at 1.024. Any ideas what could be causing that? Typical Recipe: 12-15 lbs two row. Hop stand 6 oz of hops for 20 min at 170F Pitch yeast at 66F Ferment at room temp...

    Oxydation and the fermonster

Dgallo, I don't use a starter, I used a bag of Imperial Juice, which claims 200 billion cells. Anecdotally, the lag didn't seem particularly long. Dry hopping could be an issue. I try pretty hard to keep it quick and smooth, but who knows! I added two mesh sacks with 3 oz of Galaxy each. I...
