Boil kettle condenser - no overhead ventilation needed

BrunDog, Are these similar to the spray nozzle you tried? https://www.mcmaster.com/#spray-tips/=19snwjb Thanks, p.d.

Boil kettle condenser - no overhead ventilation needed

This could be a great solution for me. I brew in my basement, which can vary from 45-70F throughout the year. I've tried the hood/duct fan approach, and it's just not ideal, especially in the winter. I was about to try a direct venting approach similar to ClaudiusB, but all that piping adds up...

Who makes custom kettles with TC port ON BOTTOM?

I had Sabco weld custom TC kegs for me about 10 years ago, before all this newfangled stuff came to market. Today, I'd probably buy a kettle and pick up either weldless or solder fitting from Bobby M. p.d.

inr brewing - basement brewery build

I've always just put stranded wire into anything with a pressure plate. Anytime you daisy chain stuff together, I can see a benefit to spades over trying to secure two wires into a single terminal. It can be a PITA if you've got a lot of them. I've just always preferred skipping spades unless...

inr brewing - basement brewery build

I hit mine with a coat of primer, then the same hammered metal paint that's on Kal's site. Beige/gray just doesn't do it for me. I spent a good 10 minutes staring at all the spray paints trying to figure out what finish I preferred. My vote is to invest the time for paint.

RIMS is driving me crazy! Help!

What BrunDog said. Running it at 240v is a recipe for disaster. That'd give you a 6000 watt rims tube.

Mash/BK Control Boxes: Liquid level switches

Finally wrapped up new controllers after ordering the parts 6 months ago. Built my original control panel 5+ years ago, and decided it was time to upgrade. I'm a fan of home audio equipment, so I went with the "monoblock amp" look. I incorporated a couple types of liquid level switches: float...

    Chugger Pump not pumping

you likely need ball valves on the pump outlets as well. i built a CIP system with a center inlet chugger using 1" ID tubing, 1' length tubing on the inlet side, and 3' tubing on the outlet (in other words, tubing restrictions were not a problem). when i first turned it on, i got zero flow...

Is my LHBS right? Re: Silicone Tube

Curing is in reference to the polymerization process used to crosslink the silicone. There's either platinum or peroxide variations: http://www.dowcorning.com/content/publishedlit/52-1077-01.pdf

What pump for a keg/carboy washer?

I'm probably in the minority, but I had a submersible pump lose integrity of the seal and cover the inside a corny with oil. Although it's kind of nice to just set something up, walk away, and come back to a clean keg, I've found that just buying appropriately sized cleaning brushes are less of...

    Looking for a butterfly valve

I'd snap a photo, but I just dismantled everything to move it to a different part of my basement. Operation is pretty straightforward though. There's a float that moves up/down inside the tube. The higher the flow, the higher the float moves up. There's gradations on the tube to tell you the...

    Looking for a butterfly valve

Head over to McMaster Carr and search for part number 4400K63. I've had it on my RIMS system for about 3 years. p.d.

    Looking for a butterfly valve

I'd recommend a rotameter with a ball valve to control flow. A 1" butterfly valve at the flowrates most of us use is unlikely to be good at what you're looking for. P.D. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

    Blichmann Liquid Flow Meter

I used one of these for my RIMS: http://www.mcmaster.com/#4400K63 p.d.

    Keezer build

That could work too (I think). I've got foam board insulation on the interior, so I decided to just mount the flanges outside and then just drill the smallest diameter hole needed through the collar and foam board. p.d.

    Keezer build

Nothing earth shattering here, but I did spend some time contemplating how to get tubing/wiring in and out of the keezer somewhat gracefully. I'll eventually add another 2 ports for a beer gun and some low pressure CO2. I found some 1/2" NPT PVC flanges on McMaster, and added 1/2" NPT...

    Humorous beer snobbery

So I was at one of my lhbs stores awhile back, and they had an advertisement up for a local brewers new brew, which I had already bought a bottle of and found fantastic. Anyway, I asked if he had tried it, and the reply I got was "I don't drink commercial beer.". These guys are great, don't get...

    Boston Area Craft Beer Bars?

I'd check the Cambridge brewing tap list online before goin there. Occasionally their rotating selection is just plain weird. Their standard beers are good though. I'd put lord hobo at the top of the list. Food is better than meadhall, and IMHO better (although smaller) selection of beer...

    Sabco fermenter

your thermometer looks like it's 1 or 1.5" triclamp. the racking port is definitely 1/2". i had sabco custom weld a fermenter very similiar to this, and just finished up my first batch in it. like sankepankey, i use a chest freezer on wheels. i use a thermowell from breweryparts.com: 1.5"...

Regulating Temp in Chest Freezer Not as Easy as I Expected...

i ferment in a 9 ft3 chest freezer, and use a 40 watt fermwrap for my heat source. i thought about a light bulb, but didn't trust myself to not hit and break it. p.d.
