    Yeast Culturing: Video Tutorial

Agar is an algae or seaweed-derived pectin-like compound (pectin is what's in blueberries that thickens a blueberry pie). It's used in the Pacific like gelatin. We use it instead of gelatin here because it is much more stable at room temperature.

    Yeast Culturing: Video Tutorial

Incubation temp is not critical...below 90F and above the lowest recommended temp for the yeast. I'm confused about what you mean with the slant though...I took several colonies off the plate into the small beaker with water, and mixed them together very well. Then, I used the resulting liquid...

Brewtarget 1.2.3 - Free Open Source Brewing Software

It doesn't care if all the sparge water goes through the grain or you add it to the kettle...it's basically six one half-dozen the other as long as you are hitting the efficiency you specified. If brewtarget tells you to sparge with X gallons of water, it means "get X gallons somehow into the...

    Adenine Mutants

I was re-slanting a slant of Chico yeast today that appeared a little pink instead of white/gray. My wife who is a Ph.D. that spent some time in a yeast lab said it looked like an adenine mutation...the yeast cannot manufacture adenine, and turn pink when they consume the available adenine in...

Brewtarget 1.2.3 - Free Open Source Brewing Software

We don't do any file associations or edit the registry or anything like that, so I'd say this sounds like some weird Windows issue on your machine to me...I know it at least doesn't happen on mine or my friends' machines. Funny about the bootup though :)

Brewtarget 1.2.3 - Free Open Source Brewing Software

This is a strange one indeed. Would you mind checking out the 1.2.4 beta to see if it still has the same behavior?

Brewtarget 1.2.3 - Free Open Source Brewing Software

Nope. Wondering if you've heard of Brewzor though? It's an Android app that can import recipes from Brewtarget.

Brewtarget 1.2.3 - Free Open Source Brewing Software

Ah yeah. This guy sent me a video back in March of that system. I think maybe I even posted a link somewhere back in this thread. It's good to see that his brewbot is getting some attention. Kudos.

You sure you're using 1.2.3? Version 1.2.2 had this bug, but not 1.2.3.

Brewtarget 1.2.3 - Free Open Source Brewing Software

Great to hear that :) I assume you got the 1.2.3 deb off the sourceforge page right? We managed to get brewtarget into the debian repos, so hopefully ubuntu, debian, and other debian-based distros can just do "sudo apt-get install brewtarget" in the future.

Brewtarget 1.2.3 - Free Open Source Brewing Software

Would you check rev. 510 that I just checked in to see if it finds Phonon on your system?

Brewtarget 1.2.3 - Free Open Source Brewing Software

Sweet, thanks Mike. Yeah, unfortunately some of these packages can be really hard to standardize across all systems even with CMake, but we don't know unless people like you tell us, so I appreciate it!

Brewtarget 1.2.3 - Free Open Source Brewing Software

Yeah, right now there is no "undo" feature, because implementing an undo system can actually be quite complicated. If there's anyone with related experience, I invite you to contact me and I can put you on the project to work on that.

The city's water report does not contain all the info I posted. I got the water tested by Ward labs.
